Default 996 GT3R at Rolex Monterey Reunion

Had a wonderful time running the 50th anniversary Montery Historics this past weekend in the 996 GT3R! Some amazing cars out there, and great to see a good group of "modern-ish" GT and prototype cars! This is my best lap from qualifying at a 1:29.9. Not the cleanest lap ever, but was happy to get below 1:30 in this car! This put me 8th out of 28 cars (including the prototypes). For GT Cars I was behind a well driven (and well known!) Flying Lizard 2004 RSR, a monster 993 GT2 Evo with a pro driver and the extremely quick GT1 Saleen S7R!

Fun to watch! Thanks for posting.

That was such a cool event. Hopefully the experiment with the "modern" car race group sticks and we have a chance to run again next year.

Clay, you did a fantastic job. You were the fastest H-pattern NA car out there, and you did it without ABS, too. Well done! It was a great weekend. They have a great set of drivers and great cars. I was taken aback by the commentator's comments about too many Porsches in the field. I had a great time racing with this group but did not make it into the 29's . I followed PJ, and we both hit something on the track; he caught it, but I was a bit too slow to react. I hope to get to follow you again next year.

Man, I am watching this again, and I think I know where I am losing pace. Great video! Your car also sounds so different from mine. The new jump after the bridge is also clearly evident.

Impressive driving for sure Clay, you and that car still get it done!

So bummed to not be able to run this event, as I saw they allowed 997 Cup cars???
How did that happen?

I would love to get my 997 WC Cup car out there as I had a blast running it at Rennsport Reunion last year.

Thanks all! The last time I raced this car was October of 2022 and I had almost forgotten how awesome these cars are!

Cory - great to finally meet you and Gordan in person! You were absolutely flying in that 993!

You were moving out there as well Chris! Don't study T9 too hard on this lap. Not sure why (momentary brain lapse??) but I took a totally different approach that was about 0.4 slow through that section compared to most of my other laps. It had higher entry speed but slower in the middle. More of a V shaped speed trace than my typical line.

James - I think the cutoff was 2011. I had a rear view mirror full if Jeff Segal hustling a 4L 997 in the second race! I'll post up that video when I get a chance.

Awesome work, both of you! What was the criteria for entry into this category?

Clay,

Always amazing what Ching you, well done. How did the event stack up to Rennsport? Had to be better than last years clusterf*ck. I had gotten an invitation, but had a conflict I couldn’t move. Looked like fun.

The class is for 1991-2011 IMSA, ALMS, Grand Am, FIA, World Challenge Sports Cars and GTs. From what I was told at the event late Saturday, the group needs to get more cars next year if it is included. Four vehicles were present that never hit the track. The target is 40 cars per run group. They wanted to see Panoz, McLaren, Corvette, Aston, Ferrari, and BMW, as well as some GT1 entries. There was mention of enough Porsche cars and a need for more marques.

Never enough Porsches😀 watched all the coverage from my coach in Florida, then this weekend watched the YouTube coverage of the SVRA Event at the Glen that TV production is much better time to step up the game HSR 😀. Jim we have to get the brother/sister cars together for some track fun.

it was a great event. I did not make rennsport last year, but did it in 2015? And 2018. Compared to the 2018, I'd say it was less crowded and a little more low key. I personally like seeing all the different cars versus just the Porsches. Rennsport (2018) was a bit more organized in terms of load in, etc.

I would say Velocity was the best experience of the I've run.
