992 Cup. 2020 or 2021?

what season can we expect to see a new 992 Cup car? 2020 or 2021?

Would guess announced next year mid-season, and 2021 racing. Knowing the 991.1 is going to be IMSA eligible through next year that would be what I conclude from that info.

thanks.
Im curious as I think this is the last year for 991.1 in IMSA.
So everything will be 991.2 for 2020 IMSA. Unless a 992 comes along...

I thought some of the euro/asian guys that race carerra cup and post here indicated the new car would be available to race next season.

Race season 2021 is when the new car debuts.

Info already communicated to supercup and various official series participants.

thanks. So I assume IMSA for 2021.

Yeah I think IMSA, PCCD and PCCAsia are the first markets the get the 992 outside of Supercup.

I've heard 2021 as well. Great news for 991.2 owners.

tcsracing1 10-14-2019 01:30 PM

will 991.1 be back in "gold" for IMSA 2020?

Freem USA 10-16-2019 01:15 AM

Communication from PMNA on this..

As some of you may be aware, MY19 will be the last available production run for the 911 GT3 Cup (Typ 991.2). Additionally, the 911 GT3 Cup (Typ 992) will not be available until MY21 in select markets for Porsche Carrera Cup. Therefore, the current 991-generation Cup car will be eligible to participate in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA/Canada and the Porsche Trophy West USA until the 2022/23 seasons.

In speaking with Imsa GT3 cup head official at petit awards... Current platforms elidgible though 2020/21 seasons.
992 may be late arrival to US teams 'sometime during the 2021 season'. If 19s are last car built sounds like a shortage of fresh cars for NA.

tcsracing1 05-06-2020 06:24 PM

Perhaps Super Cup gets the new car for 2021 and all other Cup series have to wait until 2022?
I ask cause i would like a 992 Cup for 2021 considering 2019 was the last run of available new 991.2 cups....

Given the GT2 clubsport and GT4 clubsport both have ABS for gentleman drivers, will the GT3 cup will most likely continue on without ABS for development drivers? Or will Porsche throw up their arms and commit to ABS in everything going forward include Cup... Same as GTD car.?

Just rambling thoughts during covid..

CRex 05-07-2020 02:39 AM

992 has been confirmed for a number of Carrera Cups in 2021.

Car will be delivered with wiring for ABS. Supercup and a number of "stalwart" series to run without ABS still. But you will expect to see further adoption down the totem pole, especially in the Am classes.

I assume USA cup and Canada cup will have to wait for 2022?

Looks like 992 cup is well along in development and will have wide body from street turbo incl side intakes possibly bumping power. Increased downforce and staggered wheel diameters..
