tire (front right) inside rubber starts to peel of ?
hello
all of my front tires starts with the same problem after about 500 km track is there too much camber? its a porsche 991.1 cup with 5.2 degrees front co driver side https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2cb5bdb33c.jpg inner side front right wheel camber too high ? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...deb45ebc43.jpg same pic with the rest of the tire |
I’m not a specialist of the 991 cup but for the other porsche cups 5.2 in front seems a lot . On an other hand 500 Km on track use is a lot . If the outside is still good you can try to have the tyre working more flat with less camber .
|
the outside is still good - my opinion like new, also the middle part is not warn, the inner marker shows also some rubber
toe is 4mm out - could this a problem? if i do less camber - what will change? |
In my opinion:
Too much negative camber. (By at least 1 degree) Too much front toe out (You are more than double what we typically run) Too much run time. (Our guys only run the tire 5-6 runs before changing) If you have room to slide the upper mounts out, it will reduce the camber and bring the toe in. Make sure to do a proper setup though. |
Toe out in conjunction with all that neg camber drags that inside edge
|
changing inside to outside
thanks guys for the information
but what will happen if i change the tire on the wheel - inside to outside? have this someone done or is this a no go? wolfgang |

I find the comments on too much camber interesting. My car runs -5.2 up front and the shop who set it up have been running cars in Carrera Cup for over 15 years. Also the old set up sheets from another team that ran my car professionally also ran -5.2. Yes a small sample size but would like to know more about this and why this much camber is detrimental? Does it increase understeer, braking performance or is it a tyre life issue?

"Does it increase understeer, braking performance or is it a tyre life issue?"
Could do all of the above depending on other parameters. I run low 4's front and rear |
Agree with Cory, too much camber and too much toe out.

Now that I think about it, I've had a bit too much mid corner understeer since going to the set up I mentioned. I always thought it was down to the tire but food for thought. I will get my camber brought back to 4.2 and give it a try. |
Pold9000, I'd try 0.75 mm toe out each side and 4.5 camber but your rear should be around 4 degrees, you didn't mention what that is set at. You should be measuring tire temps after a hot session to help dial in camber
