Help with decklid ID
Hi all,
I'm trying to determine what car this deck lid came from. The hood pin holes have been filled. I don't recognize the part number 996.512.975.9A and I'm guessing the metal brackets were added to accommodate a fan. The only lids I've seen with the nutserts for the center locating pin are RSR, but that's a different part number. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bob

I swear I've seen this in a build thread somewhere.
You can see what was cut out by comparing to this:

This wasn't the color I remember but the construction is very close if not the same. See posts #22+.

I'm not sure I understand what you are seeing, sorry. If you mean the two things I've circled, the lower thing is a rubbery adhesive. There's another instance on the left side that has flaked/fallen off. The second bit looks as if it was intentionally created, but possibly just cleaning up a chip as you suggest. Unless I'm seeing something else.

Those were the spots I was talking about.
We must have crossed posts while I edited that out. I came to the conclusion that the two diagonal "glue spots" are remnants from the panel that was originally there, and thus any deck lid modified in this manner is going to have it. The 'chip' doesn't look like damage, also edited that out until I can find more photos of other lids.
Still has my interest. Am I correct to assume this has the MKII Cup style mounts for wing uprights?

More clues:
The 9A indicates early revision.
>UP-GM 30< is Unsaturated Polyester (Thermoset) with Glass Mesh reinforcing 30% by weight. Is Carbon Fiber/Kevlar considered Glass Mesh? This material was also used for some of the 993 decklids, newer GT3 lids have different location and material.
The overall look of the inner panel matches the shape of the early GT3 taco wings (number does not match).
It looks like that these were cut initially to accommodate the newer style air filter/shroud.
I have found an instance where this was used in a post-taco era MKI Cup cars.
http://www.alemanmotors.com/ebay/00P...T3/listing.htm
http://instant-g.com/OldRoot/Cars/Mater/index.html
and an instance where something similar was being used on an RS (but this was the newer style lid without the separation around the latch area)
https://germancarsforsaleblog.com/mo...he-911-gt3-rs/
I think this looks like a replacement, most of the R/RS photos I've seen have a clip in RSR style decklid.
MKII cups and RS have a fully redesigned deck. (996.512.991.9B)
I thought maybe it was from the '99 GT3-R but found a photo of one using the same decklid as the RS. Might also have been refurbished with newer parts.
996 RSR use 996.512.991.9D (This suggests there is a 9C revision somewhere).
Saw the post in the 9GT3 section, your lid is also missing the decklid gurney (996.512.988.9A)

Good sleuthing! I was hoping to re-home to someone who needed it for whatever it was originally intended for. It may end up being the decklid for someone with a .2 GT3 who wants a Cup wing. I have an '05 GT3, in Guards Red even, but I drive it so little now that I have the Cup I'm not sure it's worth doing.
