Anyone have a spare 38mm 996cup caliper puck??
 
My last ditch effort before I end up buying a set of pistons to get these. I just need one if anyone has one they don't need. Thanks.

No problem. Next time someone on the forum does a complete caliper rebuild, please save the pucks and the little bird cage springs designed to keep the pucks in place)! I may be the one that needs one in the future.

If there is I would have found it, trust me. I have been looking for about a month in the half straight. I even looked into making some.

The bird cage springs can be purchased individually. The pucks are the only parts that cannot be purchased individually.

In case someone has some still, I need one bigger and one smaller to the 2004 front 6-pots. It is outer diameter measured on the biggest area 28,5mm on one and 34,5mm on the other.
Please let me know, it would be a nice present for xmas;)

I am looking into the effectiveness of a certain alloy. Seems to have a heat transfer value close to zircon.

I am going to do some real life testing and the cost to make pucks. I will keep everyone plugged in.

Ed,

If you are looking to make some, why not use Zirconia? Look up Ceramacast 675N. It is a Zirconia ceramic powder that can be casts and is used for several things including high temp dielectrics and other potting uses. The strength is great and is the same material makeup.

My challenge is that we are very much a machining house. Casting and potting is completely out of our wheel house. We are also not familiar with anyone that can do it.

To have the confidence that we have made a product that will function properly from a cast material we would require a fair amount of testing as well to make sure that the ceramics we would have created would not break under racing conditions.

For us, it would be too many unknowns.

We need to do the research, but it is looking like we can get very close to the original insulation, but increase the strength and durability dramatically without making a product that is to costly to buy.
