GTC3 996 cup: what gears for Daytona?
am planning ahead for next season and with 2018 Daytona just in the rearview mirror memories might be fresh and someone might be looking to offload a set:
my understanding is that there are different gearsets available and legal to run.
what gear sets are available and what are the costs?
Would these gears be applicable to other tracks like VIR or WGI? (I guess not as you don't run out of gear on those)

I didn't run Daytona in my cup yet but planning for next year
I have seen 164 in my gt4 on street tires so expect easily 175+
Maybe one of the 6cup racers from last week can chime in

I understand the legality but was wondering what gears to get and what the cost would be (parts and labor)
also interrested to understand the impact on laptime. (eg might not be willing to spend 10k to gain 1s by changing gears as I will likely be able to get better ROI on spending 2k on coaching when it comes to laptimes.

No there is no legal gearing other than what you have for PCA. And as mentioned these cars will top out right about 172 MPH. If all of a sudden you are doing 180 on the banking, you will be protested and your camera will be all the evidence they need to DQ you. Now in other racing series, most have no such limitation for gearing so you can do whatever you want and yes making a Daytona box is often done.

PCA Rule 3. Single Class M : GTC3 Cars may use any of the gears listed in the factory manual for the Carrera Cup race cars of that era.
From that factory manual, Porsche Motorsport recommends the following ratios for Daytona:
13/41 1st
20/40 2nd
25/39 3rd
26/34 4th
32/35 5th
34/31 6th
We manufacture some of these to slightly different toothcounts for added strength and durability, and historically Walt has accepted our ratios as valid replacements for the factory gears.

That is a rule change that I have not seen. Yes does seem that they have changed the rules for this. I tried for years to get them to do that and nothing. Huh.

Since "stock" could mean anything in 996 Cup, you need to look at your data. If you can do 172-173 in top gear at 8000 revs then your gear is good. However, if you can not, you must change the gear set to do Daytona
