Tires - for HPDE/Practice Events - 991.1/991.2 Cup Cars

What are you guys using for tires besides the Michelin's and what sizes? Tried searching and my terms gave me no good results. :(

I get my first cup car the end of this year and while learning the car don't need to go wasting serious race tires like the Michelins.

Slap some Hoosier tires on and go for it

I have a new .2 Cup car on the boat. Like you I didn’t want to burn a new set of slicks learning to drive a Cup car for the first time. I bought 2 sets of lightly used scrubs from a race team. Look for the teams running the Pirelli Trophy series. It’s getting late in the season so you may find some teams looking to unload some. I’ve heard Slicks tend to get hard with age (after initial use). Suggest you look for some recently used.

yokohama is a good choice and reasonably price race slick.

For leaning on car without ABS u might want to consider usedracetires.com. Many of my customers with race cars and older cups buy from here. We have also gotten some for the new drivers so you are blowing $3000 going into the second turn and locking them up.

Hankook, reasonably priced and get very good wear. Probably 4-5 heat cycles as test day tires

I’m about to try hankook. 4-5 cycles from new and they’re done?
