race series for 991.2 cups? fragmentation
was talking to someone about venues for 2017/2018 gen 2 cups given that they are to be the model for another 2 years i believe.....the question was about what series/venues are available for 991.2 gen 2 cups?
obviously imsa...
then obviously PCA if you run gtc7 or gta3 (abs, tires, whatever other non-oem changes you make)
does World Challenge race the 991.2s?
i think trophy cup east has the 991.1s, though not sure they permit the 991.2s?
trans am?
almost seems like with all these series that allow cups (whether its 991.1 or .2) it seems like they are a tad fragmented.
i think the same could be said of maybe a lot of the cars. cars everywhere these days, lots of series. when i see the cups running in trans am, i scratch my head a bit.
just curious where all these 991.2 cups are running that so few are available?

Pirelli trophy west allowed 991.2 Cups this season as they had a license agreement with PMNA. They will also run them next season.
Pirelli trophy east will be allowed to run 991.2 Cups next season.
Stuttgart Cup is another venue that runs the Cup cars.
I beleive 2021 is the year of the 992 Cup car.

PWC GT Cup/ SpintX Cup appears to be on its last legs from what little information/results are available. I never understood the decision to try to compete with IMSA GT3 Challenge.
PCA is the logical home for these cars if you're not willing or able to step up to IMSA. They just need to sort some details and participation should improve steadily as more cars filter down to the club level.

and i think they are going to head more and more that way.
i personally agree 10000%. too many wrecks, wasted tires, gent drivers spacing out in very tight racing conditions locking up brakes and wrecking their cars, other cars, and maybe yellow flagging or worse the race for everyone.
its a 14k expense on a $250k car that costs $15 or more /weekend to race, amortized over 2 years its probably a positive investment.
i hope they do permit it. else the gent drivers comign out of imsa would have to pull abs.
and thats the target market. the young bloods are going to imsa hoping for above and beyond. the gent guys float in and out of imsa.

suprising since any and all Gen2s in imsa, if in masters have to have abs , required, not optional.

Ultimately, PMNA decides. Will know after rennsport.
I am waiting for the 2021 992 Cup which i predict will come with ABS standard.

would be nice if permitted, would be nice if standard. its about time. you end upw ith tighter safer cheaper racing, but yeah a few more bucks for initial purchase from pmna, etc. but then again, they are sold out, so im sure they will get it. maybe they like selling bumpers front and rear, suspension and what not. massive business they have cleaning up the mess from these midpack wrecks.
PMNA has been working on the 2019 Trophy series requirements. If they allow ABS for trophy series, it will be across the board for both east and west series which have been asking for it.
Ultimately, PMNA decides. Will know after rennsport.

ha, love pmna. market control. if they raised prices, expect them to make it mandatory!!
their kit is pretty nice. its the ms4 top of the line bosch kit. comes with every bracket, bolt, hydraulic lines alrady bent, and the software fo rthe dash, etc. so everything integrates and the ABS settings show on the cosworth screens.

Really enjoy the spec nature of the gtc classes as long as everyone plays fair haha. If trophy east adds abs I'm in if not I'll put it towards entry fees.
At the end of the day were in the cars for these safety/reliability. See the recent crash at Nurburgring in the VLN in a 991.2...
