Limited Edition PCA GT3 Cup

2 Attachment(s)
Porsche is offering a limited run of GT3 Cup cars to commemorate PCA and PCA Club Racing. This is not the GT2 RS based track day special and looks to be cosmetic but still kind of cool if you're into Cups. See attached PDF's for details.

Thanks for posting! Those running costs on page 9 are no joke ($1,280 per hour for drivetrain alone)

usctrojanGT3 07-30-2018 09:31 PM

What's the ADM?

Interesting to compare Engine running costs with my 1995 GT2 Race Car. PAG recommended 30 hour Overhauls on its 450 HP (rated) Turbo
Mezger Engine which cost $75,000 at Porsche Motorsports. This is $2,500 / hour operating costs or 10X present NA Cup Car engine costs with
100 hour OH's recommended.. Engine actually self-destructed at 50 hours while leading a PCA Race at Watkins Glen. I expect the new 700 HP 991
GT2RS Race engines to have similar much higher operating expenses than the GT3R's NA Engines.

That's a pretty big markup over a €190k base cup. Somewhat justified by the fenders and ABS but there's clearly a price step up. Doors are (probably) common between the R and the Cup.

But am hearing that MY2020 cars will not be in ample supply so this may be a good way practicing pay for play... Porsche knows best...

mooty 07-31-2018 03:36 AM

great, in addition to street car LE, now porsche motorsport is doing LE.

CRex 07-31-2018 08:31 AM

The irony is this car won't be eligible for the GT3 Cup Challenge, at least not without undoing what makes it special in the first place...

So it has no home in the Pro series (IMSA or Pirelli), and cant even run in standard GTC7 cars. So it is a GTA3 I would guess.

Can't comment on GT2 running costs but this is a huge reduction vs 991.1 and prior GT3 Cup running costs.

Exactly. Hoping PCA comes to its senses and allows ABS in GTC7 now that IMSA has legalized and PCA have their very own limited edition Cup with ABS.

You'd think it a no-brainer with the reduction in consumable costs and reduced risk of contact, but maybe PCA just really likes seeing all those Cups run into each other at their events....

MSR Racer 07-31-2018 12:21 PM

those estimated running costs for the drive train are not bad in the cup world

Rallyeporsche 07-31-2018 04:40 PM

Limited to 5 cars. I wonder what the rules are going to be to get one.

Yea, I am having a little trouble with the math. I am only an engineer, so I might not understand the German math.

$25,000 service on the motor every 100 hours is $250/hour. Got it. That math works.

$8900 at hour 30 and hour 90 is somehow $515 per hour? after the second service, this would be 17,800/90 or $197

$22,000 at hour 60 and 120 would be $44,000/120 or $366 per hour.

Now, if you ran the car to 120 hours, the cost would be $25,000 + $8900 + $8900 + $22,000 + $22,000 or $86,800/120 = $723 per hour.

Second comment is, I am not sure what engine service is being performed, but if it is a $25,000 rebuild at PMNA for that money, that is a deal.

Thanks

Ed
