Publicly blaming his wife for denting his car? Classy.

Looks like he is running the old size spec rear tires versus the 680. Curious why?

sold for 36k....

pretty good steal for at worst a large bin of parts and at best a decent car with budget for a full rebuilt.

So, in a moment of weakness, I bought this car. I had a long conversation with the owner and am aware of the unknowns, but I think I did ok. I currently track an '05 GT3 and while I'm familiar with the US GT3's, I'm less familiar with the different Cup cars. I'm told there are US, Euro and Brazilian versions. Any info and history on these would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing these cars aren't really set up for the R888s and it would be happier with something else. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

@Steve113 - I'm guessing that was you bidding on it?

Cheers,

Bob

Bargain on the US market. You could part it out and make a profit at that price. Enjoy it! I don't believe there are major differences between world market for cup cars. The Australian cars were fitted with a Motec mini dash but that was a retro-fit and more to do with the rules mandated by Carrera Cup Australia back in the day.

As you guessed, R888 are not the right tire for them. Firstly the size is incorrect, secondly the spring rates are far too high. They either need slicks, or modified spring rates (and better r-compound tires than R888)

Bob- cheers enjoy it . Yes that was me I was going to stay in the bidding a little longer but decided to stop . If i knew you were a rennlist guy that really wanted it I would have pulled out sooner so I didn't bid it up on you. I bought all the good ones I could from Miami years ago . Owned 7 at one time and still race mine.

They are great cars . Despite what people were saying at the time . It was people who really had no knowledge. I still have mine and it holds the record at Lime Rock and NJMP ,the engine has never been touched despite everyone saying they all needed engine rebuilds.

Let me know if you have any questions about the Brazilian cars

There is a NASA official running a 996 cup on Hoosier R-7's in NASA's GTS4 class. If you dont want to run slicks, I would try to hunt him down and get some set up info from him.
I am pretty sure he is in the mid west region.

Best of Luck

Thanks, I'll find him. I'll probably end up running slicks, though.

Cheers,

Bob
