Possibly stupid question..
Anyone know why the 991.2 RS cars put out 520 HP, while the cup cars only make 485? The RSR makes about 510, and the GT3R makes 500. The cup and the RS both have the same bore 81.5x102, while the RSR has 80.4x102.7
Is it due to restrictions for BOP, or just reliability issues to keep rebuild times down. I'm guessing it's likely for engine reliability, as the street cars aren't driven quite the same.

Also forgetting some other variables such as weight of the car, overall setup differences in suspension and body, as well as tires.
Engine is only one element of it.

A cars class is made up of a whole bunch of different factors. HP, Weight, Aero package, tires, tricky electronics like traction control, ABS, etc. So you add all these up and you are in a class. Now if too much HP, they may say you need an extra 100lb of weight, or no abs, etc. Also the Race car HP is very conservative. So dont compare a race motor next to a street car from a numbers standpoint.

The Cups aren't designed for max power or anything other than being a homogenous environment for one-make racing.
The ECU programming leaves a fair bit on the table.
The guys at Manthey would tell you there's room to be had. Their 4.0 MR made from the 991.2 is an absolute beast.
