Default WTB: Windshield safety clips and rear window straps 997.1 SCCA GT2

Hey all
got a race coming up and am converting the 09 997.1 cup to GT2
I am in need of the front saftey clips and a set of rear straps.
I liked the capitol city ones but he seems to be out of business.

does anyone have some or know where to get both?

I got half dozen from the Capitol Citiies guy in CA. Nice kit he had.

Nice try. No they were all installed. His kit was great. But always worried me that he would send you the kit and ask to send a check after you got it. He was on Racers Group race team for a while. That is where he came up with the kit and marketed it.

we have his crash bars front and rear and they were a nice little bit of kit. saved our muffler once.
not really looking into testing it further though

they have the templates for the ones they used on their cars

Nice new problem lol
This is what happens when you park the car in the barn after last race of the season and don't service it first.
Just had the engine out to fix rat damaged coolant hoses too.

Are rear window straps just a requirement in SCCA or do other sanctioning bodies require them too? If you run a 997 Cup without side windows, is there any significant tendency for the rear window to blow out at speed if it's not strapped in?

that would be water in the oil.
I pulled the motor back out and am taking it to BBI next week.
I am suspecting the heat exchanger failed and we are running GT2 this year for the runoffs so making sure the engine is in good shape is paramount.
Interesting tidbit....this motor was refreshed 39 hrs ago by PMNA due to a failed heat exchanger.

As for the window stuff.
SCCA GT2 the rear straps and windshield clips are required.
if you search around there are some threads where the rear window has blown out due to having the side windows out.
We never had a problem running the car in IMSA trim. ie. with side windows in.
but for SCCA they require the side windows out and saftey net installed.

Please report back on whether it was the heat exchanger that failed or something else. How much time (in months or years) has elapsed since PMNA refreshed your engine? Are you running water wetter or coolant? These heat exchangers are vulnerable to internal failure, especially (to my understanding) if they sit without sufficient corrosion protection in the coolant system. Here's a photo of a 2001 GT3 RS engine heat exchanger that failed internally, showing what the oil looked like inside after it mixed with water. It sat like this for 6 years. Bad things happened -- note the corrosion on the titanium valve stems!

Ouch...
that sucks....

This engine was refreshed about 5 years ago at PMNA due to a failed heat exchanger.
I am going to guess that's what failed this time but will know more next week.
This car since we have had it has had the PMNA anti-corrosion stuff in it but I am guessing that was not enough.
a few of the hoses that are the press in ones with metal collars had lots of corrosion on them.
I had the system apart last season or the one before to install the alum radiators

I wish we could just run coolant but scca does not like that.
A trusted source just the other day told me water wetter didn't really have that great anti-corrosion properties in his experience.

The other problem with water wetter is that is doesn't have such great anti-slipperiness properties either. Years ago I read a comparison of the coefficient of friction of tires on pavement with water wetter versus coolant. It wasn't that different. Water wetter may be a notch less slippery, but it's more slippery than water, And for slick tires, water cuts the friction coefficient in half (or more) compared to dry pavement. Water wetter may be a bit easier to clean up, which is a benefit of course, but I think it provides a false sense of security for those thinking that a leak won't be very slippery. And in terms of the other qualities necessary for the cooling system -- including corrosion protection -- it falls short. But if you're required to run it, you have no choice.
