Spark Plug 991 Cup MY13
Hello
i want to exchange the spark plugs on my 991 year 2013.
the parts catalog has the number 999.170.208.90 (which are the RSR and are very expensive)
the parts catalog 2014 has an other number (also same in 2015, 2016) - number is 991.602.201.8A (i think the are much cheaper)
can i use also the spark plugs from the 2014 onwards? or you have a part number direct from manufacturer?

The recommended plug for all the Cups is the RSR plugs at $900 set. Now that is not to say that since this is essentially a 997 Gen 2 motor that the older electrode plugs wont work. Actually used some what is it Y5DDC (IIRC) in a 991 and it seemed to run better with a $5 plug. All IMSA races and such require the expensive plugs.

That was when Porsche was concerned on the tips so they had hand selected plugs then they put a green dot up on the top of the plug.

ok thank you, but the spark plug is for the cup until 2009 (3.6l) - do you use this type of spark plug in your 991 cup car?
FVD sells them including tax for 90 €/piece - cant find any on the free market?
but the recommended spark plug for the 991cup looks different to the Y5DDC.
above 991 cup spark plug 2014-2016
above 997 cup spark plug until 2008(9) for 3.6l

Yes and then Porsche used the same plug for several years in different iterations of inspection/ QA and then personal inspection of each plug which soared the price to like $75 each. This is a 997 Cup motor, and is a hairs breath away from a 997 GT3 motor. These plugs work great. I have used them in several 991s to save the expensive ones where required. And dont tell anyone but the electrode actually makes the engine run a little better.....

Funny, the Y5DDC is what my 997 GT3 motor uses in my 996. Local dealer had them for $43/piece. AutohausAZ sells them for $9/piece...Bob,why the heck does IMSA care what plug you use?

Imsa enforces cars are equal and that is what the factory provided with the car so they try and keep things simple. Of course until now with the Masters class and ABS. But that is another topic.
