Default 981 cayman S brake upgrade question ?

hello everyone

i have a question regarding upgrading my brakes for track use .

I'm thinking of getting the 991 6 piston callipers to be fitted in the front, i have seen some people do this upgrade and its a direct fit u assume .

the question is . for the current 4 piston calliper i have now in the front . can i install this 4 piston calliper in the rear instead of the 2 piston calliper ? will it work ? will there be any issues ?

Best upgrade is getting rid of those stupid drilled rotors and putting on some GiroDiscs with trackable pads. Also flush brake fluid and swap over to SRF.

Why mess with calipers when ours have so much capacity with good rotors and pads?

Before you just bolt on grippier calipers, consider the entire heat/ energy equation, including rotor thickness, and air pathway cooling.

If you are not racing the car, or tracking it at a very high level, you do not need to upgrade the calipers. Better rotors, pads and brake fluid is all that is needed.

What he said! Just get a good set of pads (Pagid yellow or PFC 11s) and SRF fluid. That should provide you with more than enough stopping power. You could also consider changing over to GT3 brake cooling ducts, which will cost you about $30 and take 10 min to install.

The price of a brake upgrade are simply not worth it unless you're racing.

I track my 981 a bit and I am doing the brake upgrade. I have flushed, changed pads and still get a ton of brake fade. I feel the brakes are good for the street but not the track.

You may want to consider the Pagid RBF fluid as well. 626 deg F drying boiling point:

I'd say a set of Girodisc rotors, Endless pads and Motul 600 or 660 is a pretty good combo for both track and street.

Hello,
Did you find out if you could install the 4 piston caliper in the rear instead of the 2 piston caliper?

Default Front brake upgrade

From Suncoast.....as you can see, the 6 piston rotors @ 340mm in. dia., are only 10mm larger in dia than the stock 4 piston 330mm rotors. That's not a huge delta. The wording in red suggests to me that these calipers are from a 2013-2016 Carrera (3.4 liter)991S***. Having the Torque Vectoring Option (220) on my GTS, I am not going to play around with the 299 mm rear calipers....but since the 6 piston front calipers are on sale at Suncoast at what appears to be a great price, I asked my shop to order them. I'll post up how they work. If they get here the week of the sixth of Jan 2020, I'll have them installed before a Checkered Flag Racing track day at Laguna Seca on 1/11/20. Thinking about a set of Pagid Yellows, but may burn up the stock pads first.

Suncoast ad verbiage:
Upgrades the front brakes from a 4 piston, 330 mm brakes. To a larger and more aggressive 6 piston, 340 mm rotor set. A direct replacement using factory parts, no modifications are required. Kit consists of the following parts:
  • Front Brake Pads
  • Front 340mm Rotors & Hardware
  • Front 6 piston Calipers (in red) & Hardware
Fits Cayman, Cayman S, Boxster, & Boxster S models, 2013-2016. ***Also compatible with 2013-2016 Carrera (3.4 liter) models.
See
https://www.gaudinporscheparts.com/v...--front-brakes. The basic components are at least $2,300 so it would seem the Suncoast package special is a 15% savings....I took it.

Note: Not a factory approved upgrade. Professional installation recommended. Kit consists of 100% factory Porsche parts. Not warranty compliant.

I am tracking at the mid level, I have had no issues with Motul 600 brake fluid, will probably change from the Cayman R pads to Pagid or Endless.

991S front rotors as described above, are 10 silly MM bigger in diameter...and there is that going from 4 piston to 6 piston thing...and the 991S calipers look larger, awesome in my opinion. Add in some Pagid Yellow Pads all the way around, fresh SRF brake fluid, a complete flush using the PIWIS to get the old stuff out of the ABS....we'll see how this works in Laguna Seca in about a week, and in 2 weeks, Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. I had to go with the Special at Suncoast...gots some new O.Z. wheels too.

I am curious to see how the upgrade works out, the 6 piston calipers seem expensive until you start comparing the prices to ceramic rotors, as I move up in group level I may have to start changing some things, this will be my first year in B group.

that's a cool upgrade above! Love how its oem!

For another option we offer Girodisc, - I use these myself- you get the upgrade of a larger diameter rotor, and can choose a pad that has a bit more mu or bite
Add a good bleed and some SRF and have a better track day!
