1st year for PDK w/paddle shifters in Cayman S?
Sorry for the n00b question, but what was the 1st year for PDK w/paddle shifters in Cayman S? Thanks!

2009, when pdk box and dfi engine were concurrently introduced
to be perfectly precise, they were not paddles but push buttons at the 9 and 3 oclock positions of the steering wheel the actual +/- paddles only appeared in the 2012 cayman r pdk model iirc |
Not interested in the weird buttons, thanks.
So you're saying the paddles are in the Cayman R only? You can't get them in any year Cayman S? |
The sport wheel with paddles was an option, you can retrofit the wheel.

Thanks, Joe! What years was it available as an option?
May be in the market for a pre-owned Cayman S and would like to find a PDK with the paddles, though it's good to know they car be retrofitted. Thanks again! ~M |
Seeing as though there are only a handful of 2009-2012 Cayman S PDK cars for sale anyway, I think you're going to be waiting a long time to find one with paddle shifters unless you opt for a 981. Suncoast sells the paddle shift steering wheel for $1000. There is a DIY for installation on this forum.

The 981 is 2012-2016, so I went looking for a PDK for sale and found one with the weird buttons still in a 2014. What the hell was Porsche thinking with these awkward things?
I guess I'll just look for the right PDK car and plan on converting the wheel to paddles. Thanks, guys! |

When your looking at the build sheet, the option your looking for if you want true paddles is "SportDesign Steering Wheel". The standard steering wheel and multi-function steering wheel had thumb buttons instead of paddles.
I don't think it was an option in 2009 or 2010 Caymans, introduced in 2011? Not 100% sure when they added it as an option, but sure it was NOT an option when the PDK Caymans were first introduced.. But as mentioned, you can retro-fit. |

My 2014 981S track car has PDK and paddles.
Came from factory that way, so was def part of the 981 platform. Not a MF steering wheel. Sport wheel. Was not my build as I picked it up at 11,000 miles and then modified it for track use only. Ironically, I very rarely use the paddles on the track. Once in a blue moon. The PDK is an amazingly smart transmission in Sport + on the track. Paddles are there, but rarely come into play on track. Not only keeps you in the right gear, but also knows what gear you're gonna need next. |

My '15 S has the unique steering wheel Push/Pull system. Yes, it's a tad odd compared to traditional "paddle" systems but I kind of like them as the controls are always "thumb / finger tip" ready when hands are 9 & 3 or 10 & 2 position. That said, the PDF system is SOOO good at how it shifts, I rarely find the need to try and override with manual intervention.

I have the same buttons but I can only shift up in manual mode. Cannot downshift. Is there a fix or is that the way it works? TIA dlb

Since we're entering the holidays... When your hands in in position (9/3 or 10/2) and your thumbs are on the up-shift controls... use your finger tips to touch the other side of the controls.... "Pull" to downshift." |
