Default Farnbacher Loles Cayman S

I need some help related to a car I'm helping someone sell. The car is a 2007 Cayman S that has an invoice from Farnbacher Loles for $38k when new. Someone told me that it was a GTR they built several of in that era, but I always thought those were converted 3.8 997 S engines? I don't see anything in the receipts that indicates an engine change just tons of body, suspension, brakes, wheels, carbon and engine add-on bits.
Its a well kept car with low miles but I would like to learn more before helping to establishing a value. Any F-L experts out there?

I think I would contact F-L with the receipt in hand and the car in front of you to see if they will help you identify the work completed.
Reading the C&D article I don't know if the $38K your invoice is showing was enough for the 3.8 engine and all of the other stuff, but maybe the price changed over time??

Interesting car there.

Can't you just pry up the carpet and pop open the engine lid?

Farnbacher-Loles has been belly up since Greg Loles was indicted, so that is a non starter. Good idea though!

Thanks Rusnak, but I guess that's my point...I don't see any indication of an engine change (i.e. its the original engine delivered with the car from visual inspection and ECU check).

My assumption from the articles and info out there was that all of the Caymans they produced were called GTR's but had an engine swap. I talked to Leh Keen who drove one during One Lap and he said that one for sure had an engine change and was still with the original owner.

I am assuming that this car had only a partial conversion done, the body change to 997 GT3 front, wheels, brakes suspension etc but only the external engine goodies (cold air box and upgraded MAF etc). Trying to learn more from someone that may have had similar work done in that era.

Thanks!

Thanks Frank, was able to talk to Spencer, turns out we had met on the race team but I didn't recall. Just to close the chapter on this, he said the cars were all chinese menu situations depending on the owner. Some had the full engine swap, others only the body/suspension/brake and cosmetic trim. They only built a handful of the full GTR conversion cars.
This car is one of the "everything but the engine" conversions, still a very cool spec with low miles. After talking values I think this car is going to sell somewhere in the 50's so if anyone has an interest or wants more information PM me and I will get you to the right person.

Did this car ever sell? I am curious to get a gauge on price. I have the only Spyder GTR (boxster) that was built. I am preparing to sell the car, and gauging value on such rare cars is tricky.

Aside from other FL cars the only real comparable cars are the GT4 and 981 Spyder, both of which seem stuck in the six-figure range.

I am not sure how "rare" the car is. It is a cool car, no doubt. But at the heart of it all is a car with some parts bolted on. I am not sure if the FL name adds any value as they simply added the parts.

Does yours have a different motor, or more like the car the OP was looking at? Pot some more details and pics and you will likely get a better idea on Value.

I just sold my 2008 Cayman S with a fully built 3.8 (cams, intake/exhaust, ECU etc) suspension and brake mods, and very low miles.

Cheers

Really late to this party. FWIW I have a FL GTR w/ 3.8 X51 swap. Total price was just over $48,000. Conversion was done in 2008 and mine was more of a street version. I have PSS9s but otherwise stock suspension. The best deal I ever got - bought in 2012 at 22,500 miles (12,000 on swap) for $54,000! Still running. Fast.
