Replacement key - 2014 Cayman
I'm sure this has been beaten to death here and I have searched but all the guidance I find is for older keys (most people probably haven't lost these yet...😁
What is the best place to go for replacement and approximate cost?
Thank you!

Pretty sure it's dealer only since it needs some programming and such. I seem to remember seeing prices from $450 to $550. Don't lose your keys!

I just saw one on ebay for about $100, and yes the key transponder code is stored in the ecu and would need to be updated. You need to have both the car and the key in the same place for programming.
Hopefully you have the spare to get your car there...

I had to buy a new key for my 981. Here's what I learned after a bunch of surfing:
Do not buy used. Can not be re-programmed by dealer. Some eBay knock off keys do not program, some have had luck. Dealer charges about 400-550 for a key and programming. Most will not program a key that they did't sell nor will they cut a key without the car and proof of ownership. There are Chinese PIWIS software. They can not program the key. That function requires a call home to the motherland. There are services where people will allow you to Remote Desktop in, they do a key program authorization so you can program. That costs about $200 in addition to the software/hardware/PC. Then you need the key cut.
After days of working on it, I just bit the cost. Negotiated a deal for 2 keys (programming one or two was the same price. Porsche of Downtown Los Angeles were awesome compared to Rusnak with their MSRP markup on parts and a-hole attitude.
Takes a couple of days to get the keys cut in Atlanta and mailed to dealer for programming.
