Default Cayman vs Cayman S options

Hello,

Building out an Cayman and curious what's the difference in standard options on an Cayman S vs an Cayman other than the wheel spokes?

Engine of course but I'm curious what is saved besides the extra paid for the engine.

Is currently an 718 Cayman S or 718 Cayman on an higher discount?

I'm afraid there is no such thing as standard "options", only standard "equipment". That being said, on the top left of the first page of the configurator for each model there is a "standard equipment" label that you can click on. Presto, there is everything for that model.

The discount is what you can negotiate with the dealer. There are too many variables to give you a simple answer. There are a number of threads that go into excruciating detail. Have a look at them. Do you remember when Saturn use to have a one price policy - no negotiating!

Thanks for the response. Porsche is not too detailed on it as compared to BMW making it very confusing for us buyers.

On the other hand I don't want to look like an idiot and ask the sales rep the differences

Your going to be handing him >$60k, maybe a lot more. You can look like anything you want. :-)

Right but at least I want to sound like I know about porsche a lot and etc. Same strategy with BMW.

Would appreciate any input on the original question if there's any minor differences other than the spoke. Even the slightest detail like if brush aluminum is included in "x part of the car" etc.

Build out I see MSRP on Cayman is 70k, same options on the Cayman S is 80k.

Cayman and an 911 aren't really far in prices mean while an 650 and an 435 are much further.

Wheel spokes? What? That's all you are able to garner from the Porsche configurator? Don't intend on being mean, but what you ask (beside discount) is all available online. It's not that difficult to figure out.

Still, sounds like you need someone to sit down with and walk you through. Let the salesman earn their money as that's what they do for a living.

Agreed that talking to a sales agent would be a Good Thing (TM).

In a nutshell, though, for a 718 Cayman vs Cayman S (besides the engine):

- Base, 18" wheels; CS, 19" wheels
- Base, smaller brake rotors + black calipers; CS, larger rotors, red calipers
- Base, smaller gas tank
- Base, PASM only available; CS, Sport PASM available

Thanks for the info.

Bought an 911 from my SR out of state an few months ago. Never test drove it, never asked questions, strict discount negotiation on an instock. My SR knows I won't be asking questions and simply buying the car.

I think the Cayman Base & S have the same size rotors, with the color of the calipers being the only difference - from page 59 of the 718 brochure:
In all sports, performance counts. It
applies to the engine and it also applies
to the brakes. The new models
are therefore equipped with 4-piston
aluminum monobloc fixed calipers.

On the new Boxster and
Cayman, the brake calipers come
with a black finish—red on the S
models. Brake disc diameters are
330mm at the front and 299mm
at the rear.

Yes, you're quite right about the rotor size, I'd discovered my error a couple of days ago, forgot to correct myself. Thanks!

Gotcha so rotor, engine, and wheel spokes.

So basically the build out is 70k vs 80k for the S version

4 years later how much more would an S have in resell value compared to an Non S?

I would go into the dealer, have them print out the options lists for both.

The reason for that is this information is highly perishable. It changes many times, and sometimes during the production year.

You know, of course you can do a side by side comparison of both models on the Porsche configurator.

For completeness: The brake rotors are the same diameter on the Cayman vs Cayman S, but a couple of reviews specify that the thickness is different, as are the calipers. See this Car and Driver review for example:

The base 718 Cayman now uses the previous Cayman S’s 13.0-inch front and 11.8-inch rear brake rotors, while the 718 Cayman S inherits the 911 Carrera’s four-piston brake calipers and thicker front rotors.

Why visit a dealer or do any online research whatsoever when you could just speculate things on a forum?
