Default 2007 Cayman Base Issues

Hi Everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a Cayman to turn into a track car, seeing how low prices for them are right now, and was wondering if anyone was aware of any problems that may plague a 2007 Cayman Base Model. I see that the Cayman S models had quite the list of mechanical problems but I haven't seen anything about the 2007 Cayman Base model. I'm also considering a 996 model and doing the IMS Bearing replacement but after driving my friends Cayman I just could not believe how "grounded" it handled.

There are not many Cayman Base Model track car conversions as it does not fit well into a broad PCA Club Racing race class. I heard that the 2.7l base model, which they are racing in IMSA Continental Tire Challenge is relatively study but I have no experience with it.

Bought my wife a base 07. Car has 62K miles, owned it a year and zero problems. No leaks, noises, etc. I decided not to listen to the fear mongering after a lot of research and talking to Porsche mechanics. In my opinion, one of the best handling cars I have ever driven, and fun to boot!
