Hey guys, Considering a 981 cayman S or GTS as a fun around town car/road trip car.
I have driven 2x CS on short test drives but GTS are hard to find.
I was wondering if there is any road noise difference between the CS and CGTS. Not necessarily mechanical or exhaust (sport ex) but in terms of tire noise/road noise/wind noise on bad interstate road trip roads. Rattles are important to me as well.
Assume same size and brand of tires, exhaust and suspension.
Basically Is there more/less sound deadening in one vs the other or thinker glass or better seals (later years vs 14' CS) ect. or is the basic build the same.
For example to me there is a HUGE difference in the higher trim 3 series vs base that ive driven (same as vw and trucks and countless others).
Thanks

I've only driven the CGTS, so don't have a comparison, but I can tell you that at highway speeds with PSE off, it's pleasantly quiet inside.

Three Wheelin'
All things being equal (exhaust, sport chrono, sport suspension, etc.), they are pretty much the same car. When test driving both before purchasing the CGTS, I could discern no significant difference.
Now if you were talking base model vs. GTS, that's another story.

OP, I dissent from the opinion in this thread. Love, love my Cayman S, but it is loud inside. A while back it was one of the top 10 loudest cabins rated by Auto magazine. Just no getting around the fact that the motor is right behind your right ear. And the drone in 7th on the freeway is annoying, PSE on or off. Honestly, that's my only complaint about the car, that 7th gear drone. Still, I DD the car and love it. Will never sell it.

i recently picked up a 2014 Cayman S and agree with Archemedes, sport exhaust on or off, i have the 7th gear low frequency drone at 70 mph (approx. 2,000 rpm). The only relief is 6th gear. It is good to hear that some of you have no issue so i am hoping to find something wrong with my 981. Exhaust valves do open and close with switch. Also interesting is that i can hardly tell any difference with pse on or off. Is it very noticeable?

I just picked up a ~6000mile 2015 Cayman S with PSE and I notice the exact same thing as you. Headache inducing drone in 7th gear on highways. Can't tell a difference between PSE on or off, aside from those awesome crackling sounds. Didn't see this coming. Not sure what I'm going to do.
