Default Getting tail lights out on 14 Cayman. The EZ way!

Hi,
I put the smoked tail lights in on my 2014 Cayman tonight and thought I would share the easy way to get them out for someone who may want to do it.

Start by taping off around the lamp assembly, so when you pull the units out you don't scratch the paint. Have the spoiler lowered and get in the trunk area and remove the two side panels on each side. They just pull out! Then you will see a rubber grommet on each side, remove them. Behind them is a star head type bolt per each side. You will remove them. It really doesn't do much good to remove them most of the way and push on them to get the tail lamp assembly out.

They lamps are in very snug. Held by two retainers on the bottom and a finger like guide on the top side. They will come straight out. I tried a suction cup and it didn't have the power to pull them out. The light is tight to the metal surround and you really can't get your fingers in to pull the lights out. So I had an idea. I raised the spoiler. That exposed the inside edge of the tail lights to grab there. Now the edge that was tight to the body panel. I fixed two heavy duty nylon tie wraps into a little loop. Put that between the body panel and the outside lamp assembly edge. Pulled evenly on both sides, and they easily popped loose with no damage. I am posting pics for you to see.

Last thing I did before inserting them was to lube the guide slots for the nylon retainers. That way they slid in easy. Reversed the tear down and I have light. Thanks

U are very welcome. And love the lights. I did the darks in the front side blinkers too. But the darks in the back really make the car look different. To me and others they like the look better. It breaks it up a little back there. Thank You. Shane

On my to do list! I did the fronts like you and really like the look of the rear with those lights. Do you happen to have a photo of the finished product?

Suncoast would be my suggestion. I got a pair from a member here.

How do I access the tail light when I don't see rubber stoppers (grovets)? Just trunk liner everywhere...How can I remove the trunk liner carefully?

How can I remove the trunk liner?
