Default Differential clunk / noise with LSD

There's a clunking noise from the rear of my 09 MT CS that's audible when I initially (and even softly) apply the brakes. To investigate, I put the car up on jacks and found there are a few degrees of play when one wheel is up and the other is still on the ground. Turning the up wheel by hand causes the clunk sound, apparently coming from the limited slip differential, with same result from either side. I'm not necessarily surprised by the few degrees of play but the clunking sound is new. I've tried searching but with no useful results. Thoughts?
