Default PDK "trans run warning" Red

Anyone else have the "transmission run warning" in Red pop up at the track?

Just had this in Sports Chrono mode and the code it threw was "pressure sensor 2". Went into limp mode and stayed in 4 th gear. It reset after I turned the key off and on but the stored code was "pressure sensor 2".

It's funny because I ran all day in Sports mode and did a lot of shifting. When I switched to Sports Chrono I had a warning after about two laps.

That sounds like some kind of problem vs just the over-heating you hear about.

Are you running a PDK cooler?

I called John Tecce at BGB to see what he knew and said that it could be low fluid. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar. It was a 20 minute run session and even though I was running it hard, I was on street tires and was not really running at race level as far as shifting.

I have run several track days on SoCal with my '10 S PDK wit no issues but I have a transmission cooler as this is a standard mod for track bound pdk cars.

So follow up.

Took the Cayman to the dealer today. Two codes present. One appears to be a sensor that couldn't tell if the transmission selector was in neutral or reverse and the other code was a pressure sensor. They tested the transmission and said that they can't get it to duplicate the code. The tech told me that he's seen a few of the first code and thinks that it could just be moving the lever through the throw too quickly and it confuses the computer. The other code he called "minor" as it appear that the computer reset when I turned the key off. He said if it would have been a true failure that I would have been unable to drive the car and the "Red" warning would have persisted.

Good news is that he said he has never replaced a PDK transmission since they were released and two of the salesmen track their PDK cars.

On a side note, and maybe related - maybe not, my battery was completely dead after my track day. I got home and within about 4 hours the battery was toast. Would not even accept a charge. Replaced it with an Optima.

Where did you source your cooler? Pics? Are you also running a Diff cooler?

Interesting. My dealer has replaced 3 PDK transmissions in tracked cars. Fortunately, all under warranty. I believe 2 were Caymans and one Carrera.

What caused the failures? Also, were these pretty stock cars that were tracked at DE's? The reason I ask is that my service tech (while active in the local PCA and a regular track junky) says that Porsche is hesitant to honor the warranty on cars that see track time.

Of course I laughed and pointed the the PCA advertisement on his desk that said "drive your new Porsche the way it was intended".

Yes, relatively stock cars. Maybe a few suspension or brake mods. No crazy power mods or anything.

No idea of what failed. Porsche replaced the entire transmission and the defective one was sent to Germany for evaluation. The dealer never heard anything back from them.

This cooler setup from BGB might be my solution. Anyone else install one?

Bill...BGB knows there stuff in taking stock street Porsches and turning them into championship winning racing Porsches. So they have created products due to tracking these cars. For the Cayman the PDK cooler seems like a great idea and it has been race tested

On the other hand and although my cars have been Carrera Porsches I have not had any PDK issues and I've talked to people that race PDK Porsches and they have found that PDK is reliable and stout.

Just a quick update. Last week my car lost reverse. You move the selector to "R" and it seems like it wants to engage but it never catches.

It's at the dealer now and they are communicating with Porsche as to the problem.

Stay tuned..........
