Price for New Cayman Base manual, sold my 08 boxster
Hi, all
I sold my 08 Porsche Boxster last year, I am looking for a base 2.7 manual Porsche Cayman. The MSRP is around 53,500, what price would be good to buy? I am living at CA. Nice to be back at rennlist. Hope you guys have a wonderful 2014!

your post is not too clear. a new base iirc has a 2.9 and 53.5 for a brand new base imho is too good to be true.if you mean new to you 53.5 is way too much for an 08 base .imho. 09 up base are gen2 2.9 and they can be had in the 30,s [09]

my 08 CPO boxster was sold 30K, I am not joking, I saw a base cayman new with MSRP 53K, so I should consider buy it? It has no NAV, no options at all. Can I try to get 5% off or even 10% off the MSRP? Thanks

A quick search of new 2014 Caymans in my area turned up several for sale at the $60K price point. This was the lowest price.
If you can get a new base Cayman for $53K that's a pretty good deal.
For comparison, back in April of 2009 I bought a new 2008 Cayman S which had an MSRP of $60.6K for $50.6K. (Dealers all over this area were "giving" away new 2008 cars.)
You might do better on this $53K Cayman bases car if you waited say until late Feb or early March but the car might sell before then too.
Based on my quick and dirty research that $53K price appears to be quite a discount for a new car. Not unheard of based on my experience (see above about the Cayman S) but you have to be sure the car is new and there's nothing wrong with it. It might have fallen off the delivery truck or something...

Also, the new Cayman (981) base engine is back down in size to 2.7L.
The gen 1 Cayman (987.1) had a 2.7L base engine while the gen 2 Cayman (987.2) had a larger 2.9L base engine.

Why would $53,500 be too good to be true on a base, no option car? If the OP was to order one with that configuration, that's exactly what the MSRP would be. True, dealers wouldn't be likely to have one on a lot already but it's not impossible. I've seen an ad recently by a dealer in the midwest who has a new base car that was $59k, discounted down to $55k.

I doubt that I could buy a Cayman in my area for MSRP at the moment, but maybe you can elsewhere.

The discount off MSRP varies dealer to dealer. 5% is pretty common from most SF Bay Area dealers and you can get more from Sonnen -- on some cars they are offering more than 10% off MSRP. In-stock cars often command higher discounts than build-to-order, but I got 5% offered by two dealers for a build-to-order, 6.5% by one and 8% by Sonnen.
