Default Clear Bra

Hi guys,
I am getting ready to take delivery on a 14 White Cayman. My last car had small rock chips all over the front. Does the clear bra work well and what is a good price on it from the dealer?
Thanks for your replies..

I have Xpel on my 997TT and it looks great and performs very well. As Scott suggested I would either call or send a note to Expel and find out who in your area installs Xpel.

my new cayman came with a clear plastic cover over the front, not a removable bra - it was a car the factory was going to show, as I understand it, and then they sold it to a dealer instead - so it has the plastic on the mirror fronts, and the car front. I don't know whether it is better than just repainting every 5 or 10 years or not, it all depends....

Mlbraptor,

Clear bra has come a long way since it's introduction back in the Vietnam War. Nowadays technology has allowed paint protection film to be better than ever. If you're curious as to how it's installed or what it's going to look like when complete please take a minute to watch this installation video and check out this installation thread.

Father & Son Porsche 911 & Cayman XPEL Install
We design our patterns to provide the maximum amount of coverage for the high impact areas of the vehicle: the hood, front fenders, mirrors, front bumper, and headlights. Protecting these areas will help maintain your cars factory finish, as well as keep the resale value high if you ever decide to sell. Clear bra will also give you the peace of mind, and confidence to drive the car in any conditions.

What area of North Carolina are you in? I can help direct you to the nearest installer.

Yes, it works. My only regret is that I didn't apply it to the windshield as well.

Do it! Beyond the hood and front bumper you might also think about having the rocker panels and the areas behind the rear wheels done. Also think about your headlights and fog lights. I have clear bra on every car I own, even on my race car and it is holding up well.

All I ever see or hear about clear bras is what they look like when installed - never anything about taking them off and what the finish looks like then. If the whole purpose is to protect the paint from rocks and debris, is it pristine when the bra comes off? If it has to be repainted anyway, what's the point?

OTOH I didn't realize when I started tracking my car that it would be subjected to, in essence, sand blasting. It is not the obvious dings that bother me - they can be touched up - it is that the entire nose now has lost its gloss; it just will not shine up. Neither will the windshield come clean, it is slightly cloudy due to fine pitting.

Thread stopped dead in its tracks. I guess I pointed out the elephant on the couch.

Not sure about elephants; but I let the dealer install the clear bra. I like it.

I imagine it would look like the paint under the clear stone guards, which I have replaced. Just apply some heat and it peels right off. Perfect underneath.
