Thumbs down 2014 Cayman S PDK Transmission Problems

First time very disillusioned Porsche owner. Picked up Cayman S equipped with PDK transmission last month and experienced immediate transmission oil leak. Dealer first replaced transmission pan but leak continued. Replaced PDK gear box (new transmission). Three weeks later I took the car home. Next day more oil leakage. Back to the dealer. Diagnosis: leak from PDK cooler flange. Service swapped cooler and gasket from original PDK gear box. Car back in my possession.

Two transmissions, both defective. Is this a fluke or are others experiencing similar issues?

id imagine you'd be hearing this left and right. basically sounds like a bad diagnosis firs ttime around, swapped the wrong thing, and then they were chasing. good thing is, pna is pretty good about addressing this stuff. they hate posts like this!!<g>

if it makes you feel any better, I have a similar car, no leaks of any kind yet.

had the same issue with my audi s5, after they werent able to fix it over 5 times, i had to lemon the car... audi did it without any issue... they knew the car was faulty.... now i am on the hunt for a porsche.... sometimes these situations happen on new merchandise, if the problem persists, luckyily u have the law on your side.... of the issue occurs again hire a lawyer to have a specialist take a look at the problem in front of you, and diagnose it that way... and then mention to the dealer what the issue is again... if its still not fixable, then u can get your money back or get a new one

no issues with mine - I'm confident it's a fluke and a series of errors by dealer.

My 2014 Cayman was treated as a lemon for problems with PDK. Dealer said all the problems I was having were normal..., the car just doesn't move when you press the accelerator from stop. Also starts bucking when in reverse. I got so frustrated with Porsche service in Ocala Florida that I traded the car for a new bmw. I have had 4 Porsche, 2 of them new, never a problem with a standard clutch, never buy a PDK again, what a nightmare this is. Porsche is watching for their own interest and not after their costumes. The PDK is worth around 15k and they are not going to roll and give you a new one unless you fight them.
Very frustrated at the moment, lost a bunch of money and my Porsche enthusiasm.

From all I have read and heard, Porsche's PDK is a very reliable transmission, at least since they have been in production (7-8 years).
Whether they last well long term and for high miles are probably yet to be determined.
Not to say I haven't heard of problems, but they seem to be infrequent and usually discovered when the car is fairly new or brand new.

My experience with an '09 Boxster (first year PDK) with 43K miles has been good.
I like it immensely more than Porsche's old Tiptronic (which was another very durable transmission).

Sounds like the OP's dealer mis-diagnosed a leaking component that was not even a part of the transmission itself and yet the trans got the blame??

If it fell under the lemon law, why didn't you just get a refund instead of losing money?
