Are Cayman's subject to the IMS bearing issue?
I've been looking for a used 996, but recently came across a really great Cayman S. There's a lot of chat on the 996 forum about the IMS bearing and a small % of failures.
My ignorant question, are Cayman's subject to the same bearing failures, or is it a totally different design?
Tx Machog

Yes, the '06-'08s (M97 engines) do have one but it is not the same as the 996 or Boxsters '06 and older (M96). It's something to be aware of but not the same concern levels as those cars. M97 engines do have oil starvation issues at high G levels during tracking and some failures of rod bolts during high revs. If it's a clean car and clean over rev history then they are a pretty good value.
