Default My New Cayman S

I just made the move from my 997S to a 981CS. Picked her up yesterday late afternoon so I don't have much to report other than the short drive home was very pleasant. She was quiet, PDK nice and crisp, user controls & PCM so much more refined and friendly and the adaptive seat very comfortable. I'll share more when I have more 'seat time'.

The dealer was Pacific Porsche in Torrance, CA. Carl Tofflemire and Richard Presley were the sales guys and they did a great job making the deal happen and treated me super.

ps. I changed the amber markers to clear after the photo. It was my 'gateway mod'!

I had the opportunity to drive a new Cayman S and Boxster S on the track last week end and though I am not a fan of automatics, the PDK is incredible. In the automatic mode, the transmission knows when to shift with incredible accuracy. I still like to heel and toe a manual gear box, left foot brake etc, but the PDK will out perform a large majority of track folks. By the way, if you study the gear ratio differences between the PDK and 6 speed, it becomes obvious why the PDK excellarates faster and has a higher top speed. The folks at Porsche are no dummies, they know how to market and engineer a product to sell. PS: Your new Cayman looks great.

Beautiful car. Saw my first one, white too, at our dealer a couple of weeks ago. It really looked good. Can't wait to hear your impressions once you get some miles on it.

Congratulations on the new ride! It looks stunning. Looking forward to hearing more.

But I am curious: what made you switch from a 997 S to a 981CS, especially since I would assume you ordered the 981CS without even test driving it?

I saw it at the LA Auto Show earlier this year, read and watched every review and test and finally took a couple of test rides before I decided. My 997S was in my garage for over 6 years and although I loved it it was time to experience something else. At first I was going to find a 2011/12 997 GTS but when I worked the numbers the Cayman S came in under the GTS. My local dealer (Pacific Porsche) had one that just came off the ship in San Diego that met my option list. For certain it must be white/black w/ PDK, Adaptive Seats, Sport Chrono & Steering Wheel and a few other typical options (ie. Bose, NAV, etc). Sport Suspension and Rejectable Rear Mirrors were on my list but they just aren't available right now. They gave me a great deal . . . . end of story.

I sold my 997S on Monday for my price so I figured I wouldn't waste any time moving into the Cayman S . . . . . I closed the deal on Wednesday and picked her up on Friday.

Still getting used to the seat and positioning but it drives and handles so well. Super quiet and smooth compared to my 2005 997S. Even my wife likes the way it drives .. . . . She hated the old 997S ride and road noise.

I'll report more after I get a chance to do some dynamic driving.

Very nice! I'd be real interested in hearing a comparison test between this and your 997 after a few weeks of driving it.

Congrats on the new cayman S, white so far is my favorite color in the new cayman. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2014 cs as well, just on the fence between PDk or manual. Although I am leaning toward PDk I have never owned a sportscar without a manual. What made you decide on PDk. Was it what you wanted or was it because you couldn't find a properly equipped manual?, please comment Thanks

Two different cars. I do like the Cayman S better than my ole 997S. It's tighter, quieter, smoother and more agile. I still haven't really put it through it's paces yet.

I do miss the all leather interior I had on the 997S but the cabin in the 918CS is so much more refined and user friendly. The PDK is really a super tranny IMHO. It shifts so fast, smooth and smart.

My spouse likes the Cayman S more than the 997S so it makes rides w/ her more pleasant.

I live in a the 'city' so the PDK made a lot of sense to my normal driving. I use the paddles 95% of the time so although I don't have the 3rd pedal I still feel connected. I never considered the manual; the reviews of the PDK and the test drives I took sold me.

Drive a PDK Cayman S before you decide on the tranny.
