No, a failed/failing AOS won't (always) throw a CEL. Find a better shop, soon.

I had my oil changed at a certified shop but not the Porsche dealer. The next day and less than 20 miles driven my car shut off and won't even hand crank. Is the engine done and what should I do? No smoke and no weird noise other than my car stalling out at 65 miles per hour on the highway. Only 51K miles on an 07 Cayman with no track or over revs. This is my first post.
'course a rod could have let go or a crank snapped or other things.
Makes no difference.
Leave the car/engine as is, unmolested by your attempts to make some kind of diagnosis/determination of what happened.
All you can do is make a mess of things.
Take the car to a dealer and have a diagnosis made.

We had a 2007 Cayman S come in the shop about 8 months ago with nearly the exact complaint you are experiencing. Customer was cruising along the interstate at 70mph... Then nothing.
Long story short, the timing chain broke. Car had never been tracked, range 1, 2, and very few (like 3) range 3 ignitions found in the DME. After the obligatory to-do with Porsche, they decided to goodwill warranty something like 70% of the cost for the replacement engine.
Good luck!
Edit: As Macster said, take it to your P-Car dealer. If you attempt diag prior to a certifed tech getting in there, your chances for help from Porsche decreases dramatically.

What a great response from Porsche to offer this good will on a car that's 6 years old and a couple years out of the warranty period.

imho. if you have bought your car[s] from the same dealer ,had ALL your service done with them and are a good customer [not a pita for every squeek] they will try to take care of you, even go the extra mile. but if ya bought the car off the street and the dealer has never seen or heard of you........good luck wit dat one

I have yet to be able to have anyone look at it. I want to take it to the dealer but I am closing on my first home and I have been told not to spend a dime until I close. I close next week and will let you guys know what I find when I get it to the dealer. I don't want to mess around with it myself and cause more damage.

I currently have the car at Porsche. They called me saying that the engine is stuck and they want to pull the tranny off to see if that may be the problem. If they tranny went bad wouldn't the car tires have locked up completely while driving at 65 mph? They are reading that the oil level is over full so I am having them drain the oil and see how much is in there and if there are metal flakes in it. If it was over full wouldnt they be able to drain it and see if they can hand crank the excess oil out? It might just be hydro-locked. Any opinions on this?
