Is this just a filter or is there more to it?

iirc it is a filter and housing not a manifold. you will get many opines on how much power if any it gives. i hear [pun] it sounds like its making power and of course the sworn claims of butt dynos. [insert smiling face here]

I installed one on my car when it was newish. Adds sound and I would say some power; how much is hard to say. Folks say that you can't feel 5-10 hp; but I disagree. I can feel the power differential at different fuel rates, temperatures, etc. Anyway,it is beneficial but you would feel the most gains by doing other air flow mods such as the desnork, intake plenum, exhaust, and tuning.

To install it you need to remove your air filter housing. That is a pain. You then need to modify it slightly so you can mount the filter inside the housing. Now the fun part--you have to get that filter housing back inside the car's chassis and that is a PITA. It requires a lot of twisting and turning to get it to fit in perfectly. You may get it right away; or you can struggle for a while. Since then I have taken just the removable filter out for cleaning and that isn't too bad. It is a little bit of a tight fit.

Thanks for the feedback. Ive done se-snork, but am trying to figure out if the v flowhas $300 more punch than a reoilable K&N. Your other suggestions are also on my to do list.

I have the Evo intake on my 2006S and love it, sounds great. I had it added to a Porsche GT3 intake, and cargraphics stainless exhaust eliminating the secondary cat. Sharkwerks (california) did all the work then re-mapped the computer so my 2006S is 350hp.
What a difference.

I did a desnork and added a K&N to my 2006 S last Fall and got about 9hp out of it. Total cost =~ $55?
Cost of K&N.

I dyno regularly, quite regularly...with every single change I make.

I've been using K&N and BMC reusable filters for a long time (since before I had a fuel injected car) and never had that problem. I'm guessing that you really have to over-oil them for that to happen.

I usually have two filters, so that I can have one ready to swap in. That way I can take my time cleaning and oiling the dirty one.

I agree with Steve, I have a habit of overdoing everything, including cleaning and oiling K&N filters I've had in the past...and it doesn't seem to cause an issue.

I just took delivery of the BGB/Fabspeed intake as the ITC Cayman series allows it...other shops with cars in the series claim a solid 12hp gain - WOW, that would be great, I'll report back after I get it installed in the next few weeks...I ALWAYS dyno after each change...ALWAYS.
