Default Rear winter tire question.

Just picked up a 2007 cayman base as a DD and would like to know if anyone is running 225/50/17's on the rears? Porsche recommends 235's and tire rack concurs. 235's are backordered until January but I'd rather not wait until then What would be the harm in running a 10mm narrower rear tire?
Thanks

Provided the wheel can safely accomodate the tire and the *only* difference is the tire's tire's width; the diameter is the same as the wider tire, the tire brand is the same as the front tire, the same style, model, N number, etc, I can't think of any harm.

A narrower tire in marginal traction conditions can be a plus since the tire has less contact area and is less likely to ride up on water or snow.

If the tire is a high performance summer tire though...forget it. Either park the car on the bad days or spring for a set of real snow/ice tires.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Thank you. I was indeed referring to winter tires. May indeed go w the 225s as there are alot more options.
