Default Looking for a oil pan extension...which one?

Hi guys,

I would like to buy an oil pan extension for my Cayman S even though it has seen over 30K of track use (km's) with no problem. I know it could happen so i think it's time.
The question is which one to buy.
I know Mantis has one and they race their CS with success. They are asking $670 for it. It looks nice. http://www.mantissport.ca/tabid/55/P...2/Default.aspx

Suncoast has a spacer and it's about half the cost: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...manmaintenance
and you can add the X52 baffles for another $200 or so: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/x51panAA.html

Anything else out there? What's best?
Thanks

I would recommend going with a race-proven product whenever possible! I'm planning on getting the Mantis version 2 as well.

For another 100-150, I just "feel" better about it.

+1. Call Ernie at Mantis.

We run the Gen1 extension on the race car (see below) and the engine now has ~ 100 race/track hours without issue. I saw pictures of the Gen2 extension and it looks great (one piece and a bit shorter).

The combination of added volume (~ 1.75 qt), windage tray, and the lower pickup point inspire more confidence than a small spacer.

Cheers,

I will have a Mantis gen 1 extension and windage tray available in a day or two, when I finish putting my CS back to stock so I can trade it in on a new car. If you're interested, please send me a PM.

I'm in the same situation, looking for a sump. The concern I have about the Mantis is how low it is. It hangs down an inch or so lower than anything else under the car. Having the oil pan as the lowest point under the car is really concerning. It might be fine for a dedicated race car, but for a daily driver that occasionally sees autocross or a DE, I'm not so sure...

I don't know about the gen 2 pan, but the gen 1 pan isn't that low. Mine was still (slightly) higher than the plastic covers on the bottom of the car. I had it on for about 4 years and never had anything come close to hitting the pan, and that includes plenty of autocrosses and DEs.

I have the Mantis sump installed with no problems in street use. I was attracted by the additional 1.5 quarts capacity increase and windage tray. One thing to check during the install is to make sure the pickup spacer is sealed with gasket compound if the O rings don't extend above the spacer surfaces.

I wonder what is different about yours? Check out this installation article. It seems pretty darn low to me. It's also a gen 1.

I run the Mantis pan spacer and my car is lowered about 1". So far, no issues. I just saw that Mantis is introducing a new version that may be a little shorter and has revised baffles.
