Question Gas gauge stuck at empty.

This has now happened to me three times, all at the track after coming off track with about 1/8th of a tank or less. I go and fill up but the needle stays at empty and I have now traveled over 120km's with an "empty" tank.
My question is how can I get the floater thing in the tank to come unstuck?
Its pretty annoying having the warning light on all the time.
The other times it just fixed itself after a few miles...

I had problems like this with my car. Dealer replaced the sending unit in the tank and it seems to have taken care of it. In my case I think it was the electronics in the sending unit rather than strictly a stuck float issue.

Might try running gas tank level down to say a quarter of a tank and subjecting the car to some serious g-forces similar to what might happen at the track then adding some gas and seeing if the needle moves.

If not run the tank down a bit more and again and try again.

However, in the owners manual there is I believe a caution against running the gas level down low and subjecting the car to hard cornering manuevers so if you do the above you're in violation of this caution and you must decide if you want to go ahead and try it and at your own risk I might add.

Or just take the car in and have the problem addressed and then in the future avoid running the gas tank so low on fuel at the track.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Update:
The dealer changed the whole cluster and then the sender in the tank...still no worky. Bringing it back later this week again. pretty annoying not knowing how much gas you have!
