Default Now Available - Drexler LSD for Cayman S

Hey there everyone,

I thought that I would share the news here with everyone. We offer a new option for the Cayman S for it's LSD.

Drexler has released a new limited slip differential for the Cayman S. Drexler has long been a builder for very high quality differentials, and tends to be one of the favorites of BMW racers.

Sit down for the price though, $3900.00 plus shipping.

We are also currently working with OS Giken to develop a more cost effective option, however, we do not anticipate seeing this until sometime in March of 2010 or so. I will keep you all posted on the development.

In the mean time, if you would like more information, or would like to order one of these, feel free to contact me directly.

Warmest Regards,

Question

So what do you hear about Guard's LS (limited slip) or TB (torque biasing) differentials for the Cayman? I have 2009 2.9L Cayman with PDK. Is that
a problem? My last LSD car was a Nissan 300ZX and I loved the traction!

Pricing on the OS Giken unit has not been determined as of yet, but I would anticipate that it will come in somewhere in the neighborhood of $2100 - $2200. Don't hold me to that just yet though.

As to your PDK gearbox, yep this is going be an issue for you, as to date there has not been anyone to develop this differential. I put out a feeler some time ago about the possibility of getting this differential made, but found that most people did not think there would be enough demand for these.

Do you think that there would be at least 10 people that would want one of these? If so and we can get all 10 to confirm and prepay, I will be happy to get this back onto the front burner.

Sorry that it took me so long to get back to this thread. Feel free to contact me directly, or drop me an email.

I certainly will Alan. To date I do not have enough people put together for the PDK option, but we are going to be searching out a core gearbox here, just the same so that we can get this rolling toward production.

I will keep everyone posted.

Good start!

I'm coming from an e46 M3, and one of my favorite features in the car is the Variable M-differential lock (which they still use in the e9X M3 and e60 M5).

http://www.canadiandriver.com/2001/1...ntial-lock.htm

It can transfer up to 100% of the power to the tire with more traction, and does so completely mechanically.

Is there any possibility of getting a differential like this? I would love to retrofit this unit to my cayman, and it seems much better suited to a car that sees street and track use than a fixed ratio LSD.
