The new M coupe( Z4M) Is going to have the M3's 333hp S54 engine and is gonna way around 2900-3000lbs. Cayman is gonna have some competition.

i have the orig m coupe and driven the new z4. based on those somewhat outdated experience, i still would say that MZ4C will not come close to cayman handling, if cayman is anything close to boxster.

From all reports the Cayman's handling significantly exceeds that of the Boxster S. It has already been reported by several in the media as the best handling production Porsche ever made (short of the CGT).

The last M coupe looked better too. If you look at the wallpapers Porsche has posted for the Cayman, the photos are inspiring. The new M-coupe just doesn't nearly have the charisma. None of the new BMWs do sadly.

The posted Nurburgring time for the M3 is 8:14, only 3 seconds slower than the posted time for the Cayman S. Thus, the 'Ring time for the lighter and lower Z4M could be qucker than the Cayman's, but I'm not cancelling my order.

The Ring is a HP circuit. When compared to a lower powered car like the Cayman, the M3's (similarly the 997) time is made on the straights not the corners. I would expect that on a tighter course the results would be far different.

The best, of course, would be to add about 50HP to the Cayman S, but Porsche can't do that & have the Cayman running "Rings" around the 997S.

Actually they CAN do that! They just don't want to! However...everyone else on the planet wants to! I do not believe we will be seeing many stock Caymans at all form enthusiast buyers. I also believe that right about now all the tuners are like kids waiting at the window 10 minutes before the candy store opens.

Hopefully they will keep the Cayman running with a full model life. This looks like the model a lot of people have been waiting for.

Tony
Of course PAG can easily make a 350++ HP Cayman. My point was they can't do it from a marketing standpoint w/o gutting 911 sales. As it is, some potential 997 buyers (like me) may opt for the Cayman, especially w/the aftermarket performance mods which I think you correctly predict.

Mods on sports cars are generally quite high, but on the Cayman they will be extraordinarily high IMO. The OEM engine begs to be modded.

Ruf's doing 3.8L conversions. . . . add to that the powerkit and you have a motor with more tq and more hp than the current gt3, with less weigh and with the engine its proper place.

If I didn't already have a great car. . . i'd be talkin' to RUF right now.

The M Coupe could fly to the moon for free and I still wouldn't buy it. It looks like a friggin' cabbage patch doll. I mean, what the hell are they trying to do? BMW could **** the Pope off.

LOL. I think the first phrase that all BMW salesmen are taught is: "don't worry you''ll get use to it."

I'm not sure what that means, but it's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.
