Base Cayman? Engine Size, Hp & Price
Any info on the base cayman?
I am guess in the cost will be between the boxster and boxster S and the hp will be 240 and 280.
My rough guess says 49k and 255 hp. Engine size.. 3.0L maybe.
Any other thoughts?
I would really love it if it came in with the 2.7L 240 hp motor at 40k, but who am I kidding.

Porsches are not about hp or looks to me.
They are about sweet handling, balance and poise.
You might be surprised, but I consider my 247 hp 944 Turbo to have plenty of hp. I figure that hp level with no lag and the sweet sound of the flat six in a mid engine couple. I would love it.
I figure since a base 987 is 45k why not a base 987 coupe with the same engine for 5k less?
Seems like great car to me.

I see your point, but it's ironic that most of the other car companies can't. Porsche just pointed it out again, albeit 20 years later. When you really think about it, it would be close to the same price!

Although it's somewhat risky to try to guess what Porsche will give the base Cayman, I'd think it would have to be more than 240 hp because that's what the Boxster has. How about 265? That would be 30 less than the Cayman S and 20 less than the Boxster S. I think I'll just wait until Porsche announces it, but still follow with interest all the speculations. Most of the speculations have been about the base Cayman's engine size, which, of course, also relates to its hp.

I am looking at the Cayman down the road and I seriously question the base models validity. I seriously question the 70k it would cost me to get the S down the road as well but that is another topic. My opinion is based on the fact that virtually every article I have read says the S feels underpowered or flat, it just doesn't have enough oomph. So the chassis is just that good, I believe that. My 04 base boxster was underpowered to a degree but it was 50k out the door also. I know and understand why Porsche doesn't play the h.p. wars game. But will people swallow 60k for 260 h.p.. And if so expect it to be slammed by all the publishers and reviewers who know their game. My biggest dissapointment with my 04 was the top problems (it rattled and flopped in the wind). Unwanted feature of a convertable or not I was greatly dissapointed and the hardtop just did not satisfy me. The new Boxster is supposed to be better in every way....I like the Cayman but 10k more to get the hard top hmmmmmm. Good thing I have a few years to ponder my decision. By then Hopefully the S will have 310h.p.

Wouldn't it be great if Porsche decided the base Cayman was going to be an equal to the base Boxster...in hp and price? I mean, it would be great if it were priced lower, but we know Porsche won't do that...so I'm just hoping they say...ok, we'll make the base Cayman the same as the base Boxster. I think I'd be happy with that.

With it's 2.7-liter engine, the Boxster is currently the odd ball in the line. The other cars have 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, and 3.8-liter engines. To satisfy our need for symmetry, the base Cayman should have a 3.0-liter engine, and the base Boxster engine should be enlarged to 2.8. Then maybe I can get some sleep.
