Where was a Targa roof mentioned? I can't find it.

Do you mean when they mentioned the "strategy of variants"?

Isn't that (the folding roof on the Pontiac G6) just the most BUTT UGLY thing you have seen on a car in years??? The rest of the car could be perfect, but that top alone would put me off so much that I could never get past it to find out about the rest of the car. That top is a total turn-off, kinda like a black interior, IMO!

I just saw the same pictures in both Autoweek and C/D. The profile shot (first time I've seen one directly from the side) really caught my eye. I had to look at it for awhile. Seems like there was something familiar (besides being 911-like) about the rear end, as you look at it from the side. Not sure what other car I was 'seeing.'

I like it a lot more than I thought I would. The rear fenders, the way they dip between the top of the fender and the hatch. Very nice. I am quite impressed with the way it looks.

BUT change the name to the Boxster coupe. The Boxster is it's heritage-it should get credit. I don't like Cayman. I like the 'S' part though. I always like it when Porsche models end in S-there's usually something special about 'em. In this case, 13 more HP than my 993

I just got the Porsche brochure from my local dealer, it looks spectacular in these glossys. The side shot makes the regular 18's look much better as well.

If someone wants to see it, I can scan it from my copy of C&D.

Notice that the C/D article and brochure show different performance specs.

Hmm, I thought the 1996 993 HP spec was 285. Cayman spec is 280 hp. Or am I wrong?

Yeah, it probably should be called the Boxster Coupe, but I guess if they did call it that then they couldn't charge more than the Boxster convertible due to the fact that the convertible Porsches (911s, 944s, etc.) were always about 10 k more than the coupes.

The car has an Audi TT like rear profile ( not bad) and the Hp ratings are supposed to be 295 out of the box as per Champion.

Pontiac got the idea for that roof from FIAT. They have a model that was recently introduced with that style of roof. It is yet another way of having a LARGE open sunroof at the touch of the button, without having to lift out the panel like 944s, or resort to a canvas top like the Citroen 2CV or Lancia Scorpion. The multipane power sunroof is not the prettiest thing, but IMHO it beats the "one big slab of roof sliding back over the rest of the car" approach, a la 2nd-gen Ford Probe!

Cheers,

Tony
