high pitch whistle
I have an 08S and when I start the car and it lasts for 5-10 minutes then stops. I thought it was the air oil separator so I replaced it with a brand new one tonight. Sadly still there. Reminds me of the sound a car stereo makes when it isn't grounded properly. Thoughts?
Thanks

The secondary air injector pump makes a noise like that, upon start up, for a few minutes. It's located near the coolant reservoir in my 996.....I don't know the location in a Cayman however. If that's what it is, it's supposed to sound like that and does not indicate any type of issue or problem.

Interesting... I have no idea what the heck that is. Google here I come. Also it is new noise and hasn't been there the last year of ownership. So I am wondering if it is going bad.

and the confusion continues..... Started today no noise. Drove for 15 minutes and went into the store. When I came out 15 minutes later I got the whistle. Lasted about 2 minutes. Then all good. Thought it was a cold car issue but I was still at temp when I started it.. Losing what little left of my mind.

Power steering... mhhh I will check it. Won’t the sound change when I move the wheel?
Stupid question. Even though I bought Porsche branded AOS is it likely that it is a defective one?
PS I will give you .03, don’t sell yourself short.

Go to HF and pick yourself up the stethiscope they sell if you don.t have one already.
Pull off both engine covers and then see if the engine will make the sound.
Use it to locate the sound.
Oh yes.....it is possible that the new AOS is bad or isn.t actually bad at all. First step first.

Lol.. I bought the stethoscope from HF last Saturday. Had the cover off and no damn noise. So put the cover back on and drove it.... Now I have to rinse and repeat.

Have you completely eliminated the stereo (i.e. powering off the stereo system altogether). I've had two instances where I thought that I had weird engine noises and it turned out to be the AUX jack touching a metal surface.
