Default GT4 Software Induced Throttle Lift

The two incidents occure at VIR about two weeks ago. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

INCIDENT:
Two on track instances of GT4 software forcing a throttle lift and defaulting to Limp Home.
EVENT: VIR March 16 – 18, 2018 PCA
RUN GROUP: White
LOCATION: VIR Turn 6b – exit from the Snake
TRACK CONDITIONS: Cold/damp, 38 Degrees
FACTS:
· Both cars were GT4s
· Incidents occurred at the same track, same turn, under similar track conditions on different days
· Neither car was pressing hard due to track conditions
· In both instances a warning flashed, the car’s software took control resulting in an immediate forced throttle lift. All throttle control was taken away from the driver. There was no opportunity for the driver to react, override or regain control of the car.
ASSUMPTION: A combination of track conditions, speed, steering angle, etc. exceeded the parameters written into the software. The car’s program was unable to resolve and failed over to the default – limp home, which prompted an immediate forced throttle lift.
DETAIL:
CAR 1: GT4 Tires: Cup 2 Suspension Setting: Soft-DSC Controller PSM: On
· On exiting from Turn 6b flashed a Traction Control Warning message - speed approximately 80 mph/ throttle - 50%/ third gear.
· Immediately after the warning, the car’s software forced an abrupt throttle lift. There was no throttle control and went from 50% throttle to zero without moving off the peddle. The loss of throttle control was immediate, the car slowed very quickly and went into Limp Home Mode. Driver’s hands were almost straight at forced lift and there were no cars immediately behind.
· Driver continued around the track in Limp Home. In the paddock the car was shut down and restarted after two minutes. On restarted there was no warning messages. GT4 was driven around the paddock, had full throttle control and no warning messages. At that point returned to Pit Out. On reentry there were no subsequent issues for the remainder of the session or the event.
· No scan was run at VIR. After returning home ran a scan. No fault codes evident.
CAR 2: GT4 Tires: Dunlop Suspension Setting: Unk PSM: Unk
· Turn 6b - conditions, cold/slick, 38 degrees - Car 2 experienced an uncontrolled throttle lift while in the turn. GT4 spun and was damaged.
· Car 2 flashed a Low Oil message and the software forced an immediate throttle lift.
· In the paddock it took several hours and numerous restarts to clear the Low Oil Warning. Once it cleared the oil level read normal.
· Car 2 was repaired sufficiently to continue after Low Oil Warning was cleared. No subsequent issues were experienced for the remainder of the event. No scan was run.

Wow that sounds a little scary.

What comes immediately to mind here is an accordion-effect style accident due to unexpected chopping of the throttle in an unexpected area...
