Default 295/30/20 tire with HRE FF01 wheel fit? Cayman S 981

I just purchased a Porsche certified black 2014 Cayman S, with Manual trans and PASM active suspension. All stock ride hight ect.
Has mint OEM silver alloy 19" with brand new Pilot Sport A/S3+ tires but just not my personal preference.

Looking to order the listed below wheel/tire from a local recommended wheel tire shop. Shop rep said most prefer wider rear tires on the 981 Cayman and he recommended 295/30/20 in the rear. But I am not sure if the rear tires are too wide for clearance? Looking for if anyone has similar set up or suggestion if 295/30/20 rear tires with manual trans is OK fitment.

HRE FF01 (Fog finish)
Front 20x8.5 with 235/35/20 Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires
Rear 20x10 with 295/30/20 Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires

HRE's engineers test fitted every vehicle that they offer a fitment for on the FF01's and made recommendations on tires based on what they found to be a perfectly safe and functional fitment. For your car they recommend a 265/35/20 rear. You can also get away with a 275.

On the car below my client insisted on having the 295/30/20 on the rear. When we installed it on the car a spacer was needed because of rubbing inboard.

Hi Alan

I still have your trailer and my Exige. To your question, I also have a 2015 CGTS with the HRE FF01s but 19” rather than 20” which is better for tire cost. Tires are 245/35/19 and 275/35/19 Michelin Cup2. 245 fits perfectly at the front and mitigates somewhat the inherent understeer of the Cayman chassis. 275s are stretched on the 10” wide rear rims and 285 would be better. 295 would not clear at the rear on my car which sits 20mm lower with the Sport Suspension.

Hopefully waiting on an email telling me I am on the list for a 718 GT4. If true, both the Exige and 981 go to make garage and wallet room. If not, the Exige morphs into a REV400.

Cheers,
Bob L

hello Bob, wow we have similar likes in cars!

I recently moved to Scottsdale AZ, just could not take the cold and undrivable pot hole roads in Michigan anymore. Sadly I just sold my BOE rev300 Lotus Exige S, it will go down as my favorite car. But I needed to reduce amount of cars I have in retirement. With the ability to drive yearly on good roads here in AZ the Lotus Exige was clearly not a practical daily driver. So now the Cayman S with abilty to go to store or dinner when our new XT5 Cadillac is not available for store runs and ability to take the Cayman S to some local amazing mountain drives is current plan.

I will likely keep the OEM 19” wheels in case I do any track day’s for more choices and cheaper track tires. For the 20” I am leaning to 245/35/20 front and 275/35/20 rear with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Just struggling on wheel color choice.....

I personally seen some local 981’s here in Scottsdale with this 245/35/20 front and 275/35/20 tire sizes and owners loved them. I would do the 265’s for sure on OEM Porsche 9.5” rims but I think the 275 might look better on the HRE 10” wide rims

best regards Alan
