Next 2 years I really want a Cayman S. Been contemplating a 2006 CS but really like the interior styling of a 2014! How does a,2014 base Cayman stock up against a 2006-2011 Cayman S? Car would be a,weekend daily, fun spirited driving and possibly see the track maybe once per year. Thank you in advance?

I bought a 2006 Cayman S last August (my first Porsche at age 70). I made the decision to look for a 987.1 largely due to a self-imposed budget. Managed to find a car with my desired specs with 43k, service records, recent 40k service, and a clean PPI. I bought the S because I wanted the bigger brakes and minor differences in suspension (PASM, etc.) that are easier to find in the S. I would have considered a base Cayman if a candidate had come along, as I'm not power-focused. Had my budget accommodated a 981, I might have gone in that direction. So much for a "non-answer".

If I were buying today, knowing how much I like my Cayman, I might would raise my budget enough for a 981. Harder to find, I think at 30k in reasonable shape.

I'm shopping in a similar budget as well and not seeing any 981 cars for $30k. It seems like either '09-'11ish base Caymans or '08 or older Cayman S are available for this price tag. I'm probably going to go for a newer non S car. Either car will have disappointing power compared to what I'm coming from but other aspects of the car will more than make up for that. Also, 260 hp in a 2900 pound car isn't slow by any means.

I hear ya on the power aspect. I have a pullied supercharged Saleen making 500/500. Still gave her just need to get out of the mind set of wanting 500 lbs of torque lol

I bought my 2009 Cayman S (so 987.2) for right around $30k from a private party, as a point of reference. It was a little higher mileage (around 70k), but in great shape with all service records.

Bought a 07CS w 60k miles, for mid-20. I've put 20 k miles on it and it has needed oil changes and a A-O separator. Great little car. Could pick up something like this for $20 now easily. It would punch way above its weight class and still be dependable.

For what it is worth, I bought my 2010 Cayman S with 59K miles for exactly $30K back in June of this year. It is a very clean car with good maintenance history and no issues.

I was only interested in a 987.2 and it took me quite a while to find the right example, but they are out there.

I come from a 700-1000hp Mustang Fox background, and to be honest my 06 Cayman S puts a larger smile on my face with the 300hp it has. It feels so different and turns! I found a well maintained 06 S 6spd, 40k miles, all service records with nearly all options for $28k
