Default APEX | Porsche Track Wheel Development

As you might have seen in our recent survey thread, APEX is working with the Porsche community in an effort to produce track wheels that offer unprecedented value. We have received 800+ survey responses from fellow community members offering feedback and fitment requests. The 987/981 chassis represented approximately 32% of the surveys submitted, so we’d love to hear more from this community. If you haven’t chimed in yet, you can still provide valuable feedback by taking our Porsche wheel survey here.

Before we can move forward, we need to fine tune certain fitment specifications for the 987/981 chassis. So, we’re seeking your expertise and need detailed feedback on the specs we believe should be produced.

Below is a list of all widths and offsets we’re looking to create for a variety of Porsche chassis in the first round of production. Fitments specific to the 987/981 chassis can be seen listed below. In accordance with the survey results, these will be produced in 18” sizes first and 19” thereafter. Survey data and community feedback will directly determine what will be produced, and when. Please note that both the SM-10 and EC-7 designs are being reviewed for feasibility. In your comment, please include tire sizes, tire model, and alignment settings if you have a change request so we can track developing trends.

Proposed Wheel Specifications

Front:
18x8.5” ET50

For SPC racers, we can only go 10" in rear. So preference would be 18x9 and 18x10

Tire brand is up in the air right now, but would be comparable to Hoosier R6 245/35 & 285/30.

I'd like the same but need confirmation that those wide HoHo's don't rub the fender or the liners. Good call on sizes!

Pricing is in the works. It is dependent on multiple engineering factors (knurled bead, re-designed center pad, etc) which is currently underway. I'll update the community as soon as something is concrete.

We're absolutely set on launching sizes that will be legal and competitive in SPC. Seems like our offsets seen above will work perfectly with the tire size/compound you've mentioned, but please let me know if and where we've missed the mark on our specifications!

I may have missed it in the different threads, but when will wheels be available?

Also, are you looking to reduce the number of options from those listed or manufacture them all? Feel free to email or call me to discuss if you would like.

Cheers

Our pre-order/group buy will begin in February with wheels delivered by mid April through early May. As soon as I have solidified dates, I'll absolutely update the community.

We'll be coming to market with most all of those options listed above, but we may opt to produce some during a later production run. It simply all depends on what the community rallies behind. The individuals who let their desires be known have a much higher likelihood of their specifications being produced from the start. This is where the 987/981 enthusiasts have been outspoken and staunch supporters; so it's safe to say that all of the fitments specific to those chassis will be produced immediately.

Interesting. They're working for me on multiple browsers. Are you on mobile or desktop? Can anyone else confirm/deny this problem?

Here we have a rendering showing the 18" SM-10 in our three finishes against a Racing Yellow Cayman GTS. The front wheels are profile 1 concavity - the least amount of concave. The rear wheels are profile 2 concavity - medium amount of concave.

I may have already asked in one of you other threads but do you have any pics of the wheels on dark color cars?
