I recently purchased my first Cayman , 2006 S with 19K miles. The previous owner had installed TOYO Proxies T1R 19" tires. The tires haveroughly 1500 miles on them. A couple of observations: These tires are LOUD! the road noise seems excessive, they also seem to "track" any deviation in the road surface. Additionally the Cayman seems to amplify the road noise in the cabin. I have checked the suspension and undercarriage with no visible signs of damage or wear. Being a new Cayman owner I was curious if I was being over sensitive or others have experienced similar road noise, or issues with TOYO tires?

What is the DOT code date on the sidewall? The first 2 digits are the week of manufacture and the last 2 digits are the year. If near 5 years old, replace. Old tires get louder (harder).

+1 for LexVan's advice. If the tires are old, you might experience a catastrophic failure -- especially if you drive in HPDE's or other track events.

My wife has a 2006S, purchased new. Over the years, we have been forced to change tires due to noise issues more than I care to think about. It is a generalization but the tires seem to get noisier as they wear down and at about 50% tread depth, it gets to be too much and we get new tires. I can't comment directly on your Toyos, we have generally purchased the Porsche recommended Michelins.

Had those Toyos on my 996 Turbo. Lousy tires in so many ways. Running Bridgestone SO4 and happy with them.

It sounds like you don't like them - at all. If not, get rid of them. The ride improvement from a new set of tires is hard to understand until you are driving them. I had some Continental Extreme Contacts on an M3 and never loved them, but wanted to ride them out until they were worn. Finally got new PS2's on them and it was like the car was magically transformed.

I'm on my 4th set of PS-whatever the latest is and hard to beat... PS4's just installed on my Spyder and it is buttery smooth and grips like crazy... For roughly $1200 or less you'll be happy you did.

+1 on the PS4S's, which replaced the Pirelli's on my CS. Better on the track, and much better in the rain. Very civilized on the road.
