987 Cayman - Front control arm subframe reinforcement
So I understand that the eyelets on the subframe for the front control arms are prone to wear and/or complete failure on tracked cars (or maybe it's just tracked cars w/monoball control arm ends).
At any rate... I have a failed front subframe (eyelets are oval shape on the drivers side allowing movement of the control arm). Been chasing a horrible front clunk since getting the car back 6 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure I found it, despite some "experts" telling me the clunk is "normal for cars with monoball mounts." It's definitely not.
I understand it's "common" for race cars (Caymans) to weld/gusset the eyelets, as a step against complete eyelet failure (I guess it's possible to see the eyelet actually break off on super sticky tires, like GTB1 cars).
Is there any known preventative cure for oval'ing of the holes themselves though?
Before I go buy another subframe, go through the effort of the swap (not to mention the cost of the parts + another alignment, etc), only to have this happen again... just want to see if there's anything else I can do.
