Sport Exhaust and Sport Software

Thinking of adding Factory Sport Exhaust and Sport Software to my 2008 Base Cayman. Suncoast sells them.

If I do both the software and exhaust, does this just add a SPORT button which activates both the software as well as the exhaust or will it incorporate two buttons, one SPORT and one Exhaust button?

Hoping someone that has these two options may shed some light.

I don't have PCM, Sport Chrono, or Sport Suspension.

(I edited my original version of this post as i saw that in my original I was too groggy and had not read your post well enough :o) It will incorporate the two buttons.

I wasn't sure if your model came with it , since on the 981 'Sport' is standard. As you stated, Suncoast DOES also sell 'Sport' mode for your model and the two will work together (for example PSE getting 'activated' when 'Sport' mode button is pressed) if programmed by the dealer. I DEFINITELY recommend both but it looks like $4.2k if you buy both new! Alternatively, used PSE DOES come up for sale periodically if someone removed it prior to selling a vehicle but it's few & far between & they usually go quickly. Hope this help, good luck! -Dom

Thanks! The SPORT button does not come standard. I was hoping it would be two separate buttons. Sounds like on a 987 it will be. Can anyone with a 987.1 confirm?

Check it out: https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-marketplace/1026574-987-2-boxster-cayman-sport-exhaust-pse.html#post14508390

You would need to buy some additional parts (like button) but they are definitely available and maybe poster is open to negotiate? Best of luck!

I'm considering it for my 987.2, but would simply leave it on all the time. Adding the buttons is a big deal, and costly.

Really?!? That's interesting b/c the buttons are relatively cheap and not that much to add in the 981. I would advise the OP to at least quote it out to decide. It's nice with the buttons to have a choice of changing the car's personality a bit...:)

I think the Suncoast kits include the buttons.

Thank you all!

Would you have an approximate on the cost for the button and install? My 981 has the PSE, but no button controller.

Having the factory SPORT software and Sport exhaust being done now. Pick it up end of this week from the dealership. Looking forward to it!

If you're looking for a valved exhaust, check out our Tracktec Valved Bypass Exhaust. Similar to the OEM PSE functionality, however more aggressive for a fraction of the cost :)

Our esteemed sporty Maxflo Exhaust tone with a raw, race car roar and extra power at the press of a button thanks to muffler bypass valves. One exhaust, two unique tones.

Comparison of the factory Porsche mufflers and tips from the Boxster/Cayman and Fabspeed Motorsports TrackTec Valved Bypass Exhaust System with Polished Chrome tips. Fabspeed systems are modular for easy installation and removal, and are made of high quality T304L stainless steel for durability and performance.

With one press of the factory exhaust button or Fabspeed valve remote, exhaust is free to travel unrestricted through dump tubes bypassing the mufflers. A frenzy of burbling and crackling erupts with every application of the throttle. A thunderous roar permeates the cabin at just the right volume level.

A Fabspeed Valve Controller Kit is included to control the operation of the valves

Got the car back. The dealer had to wait quite a while for Porsche to send the SPORT software activation code. SPORT mode is a nice upgrade. The exhaust is nice, but not as loud as I'd hoped. I am going to have them look at it next time it is in to ensure they didn't miss anything.

Next project is PCM 2.1 upgrade from CDR-24. We really like the Gen 1 Cayman design with its curves. The later models did away with the accentuated curves. It's an '08 so hopefully we won't have an IMS problem as they seem to be less susceptible the later into the 987 it goes. It gets driven every day and regularly maintained.

My car is equipped with PSE. On stock headers it's still pretty tame when in "sport" mode.

On the 981's it seems more aggressive - you get some "crackle" on overrun which is cool.

Throw a set of headers on it. Then the difference between "normal" and "sport" will be HUGE.

I have to say I really detest when a vendor hijacks a thread with an offer to sell their product. I had this happen with Fabspeed before, I asked a question about an exhaust and had PM's from them in my inbox offering to sell their stuff. I think it's tacky. Most of us can read and research just fine-- the OP wanted to know about the OEM exhaust, not this vendor's.

(off my soapbox)
