Why do you suppose Porsche Engineering would design the headers in such a manner? (if as you say it's terrible)

Not sure, I assume a mix of emissions compliance and cost. There's also the fact they are trying to protect the base 911 Carrera. Likely one or all of those. The good news is aftermarket headers will make a solid difference!

Again, thank you! Just curious, has anything yet thrown a CEL? Any time to 'adapt' or 'learn' by the while it ran a little rough right after install? Asking b/c feel better knowing what to expect...looking forward to header/catback and new dyno! - Dom

No CEL. We've had the Cobb Accessport installed that might be a little more tolerant to the change compared to the factory DME. Either way, as long as you have it sealed up, there shouldn't be an issue. IPD mentioned that sometimes the 981 needs to be calibrated with the PIWIS tool, but we haven't had to do that yet on a 981. We should get the headers and cat-back on this weekend. Looking forward to it! JRZ 2-way coilovers are on their way as well.

Can't thank you enough for this series. You mentioned in the video trying the Plenum with the stock tune. I am not sure it is worth the bother. This is because it would not reflect the typical process a modder goes through adding one mod at a time. In the end the cumulative piece by piece improvements should reflect what we would experience adding one mod at a time, or if the cash is available, all at once. If you do the build in the order a "normal" Porsche owner would you will keep me captivated.

One thing you might add, unless I missed it, is the time it took to do the install of the IPD. Also pictures of "big wrench" would be helpful as I doubt you meant my 3" Crescent.

Thanks for the feedback. Good points. I was chipping away at it while doing other things, so I'd estimate 4-5 hours. You have to take apart a decent amount of the interior trim and it's not the most fun to squat in the trunk or stick your head and arms through behind the passenger seat. If you had the engine out, it would take 10-15 minutes.

I'll try to get a picture of the wrench and location before I put all the trim back together. The clamps just don't give you a lot of room to drive that bolt in. Not a lot of slack in them so you have to get pressure from under and on top. Since the plenum is blocking the bottom clamp, the wrench or a crow bar would be the best bet to make it easier to start threading the torx bolt that holds the clamp together.

Just a quick preview with the Agency Power Headers and Soul Performance Cat-Back (valves open). The car is a manual, love that up-shift sound!

A preview with no sound or video? That's cruel!

When you click play, look in the bottom right corner. For some reason by default it mutes the video. You can also click through to Facebook and hear it or we have a slightly longer video on our Instagram feed.

Perhaps the best I've heard under power for someone looking for the race sound -- really outstanding. Love it!

Too bad it sounds like a boat at idle... can't have everything.

The mic seems to pick up the idle sound worse so then it sounds in person. Ironically the idle decibels were very similar before/after. We'll have a full video review up here shortly. We still need to wire up the valves, we just wanted to test with the valves open and make sure everything is sealed up properly. We'll include video with the valves closed, anxious to see what that sounds like as with valves open, cruising on the highway would get old for most!

Thank you! You can always close the valves on the exhaust if the aggressive idle makes you want to go fishing.

Gotcha.

Curious... why Agency header and not Soul's, if I might ask?

I heard a full Soul somewhere on the Interworldwidenetweb and it was awesome.

Soul Performance Valved Cat-Back 981 (Group Buy / Sale)

All, we talked to Soul about doing a group buy / special sale for Rennlist members.

981 owners: You could go PSE - or you could get an even better sound with valves open backed with a Lifetime Warranty! The Soul Performance Products 981 Valved Exhaust System is now on sale until the end of the month at $2595 down from $2995. If we reach 5 buyers, pricing will be reduced further to $2495 and the first 5 buyers will receive a $100 refund!

DEVELOPMENT: Soul Performance Products wanted to be certain that our system offered a superior spectrum of sound – Cup car inspired with valves open but with a refined, no droning tone with valves closed. The Soul mufflers practically eliminate droning – even with aftermarket headers, the sound is reserved in the cabin with valves closed!

CONSTRUCTION: Each system is made from mandrel bent T304L stainless steel tubing and features mufflers with fortified casings in the interest of durability. You can order this exhaust to suit your specific aesthetic desires – select tips of your choosing. Either at the car show or the race track, you can drive in confidence knowing that you have the best sounding, best performing exhaust backed by the industry-leading Soul Performance Products Lifetime Warranty.

BOLT ON AND GO: Each exhaust is rigorously quality-checked and tested in a fixture to ensure perfect fitment. Thorough installation instructions are included in the box for a straightforward install that can be performed by most DIY enthusiasts. Valves are controlled by the existing PSE button, our valve controller fobs, and are compatible with HomeLink!

LIFETIME WARRANTY: Enjoy your Soul exhaust components with confidence on both the street and track as they are covered by our Lifetime Warranty!
