Default PSA; Inexpensive TPMS replacement

So I started getting loss of signal intermittently on a few of the TPMS sensors on my '10 987.2 CS. Being as they're about 7 - 8 years old I figured the batteries were dying and it was time to replace. I decided to change all 4.

The sensor I used was "Sens.it" by a company called Alligator. Made in Germany if I recall correctly. They are a programmable 433 Mhz sensor that can be flashed with the Porsche firmware (via a TPMS programming tool).

The sensors are available on Amazon for about $37.00 each.

https://www.amazon.com/Alligator-sens-Pressure-Sensor-Clamp/dp/B01LZ8JWSY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501255698&sr=8-1&keywords=alligator+sens.it+433 https://www.amazon.com/Alligator-sens-Pressure-Sensor-Clamp/dp/B01LZ8JWSY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501255698&sr=8-1&keywords=alligator+sens.it+433

A competent shop should be able to break the beads and push the one tire bead down enough to change the sensor out without completely dismounting the tire, thereby saving you at least the cost of re-balancing the tires.

A note about programming; There seems to be an error in some of the tpms programming tools out there. In short, they are set up for 987.2 (possibly others) as having 315 Mhz sensors, not 433 Mhz. Thereby, they are unable to read the old sensors or program the new ones.

The workaround in my case was to switch the tool to 2013 911 (which is the same tpms software as the cayman) and everything works.

Amazon Amazon

My question is: will I need to get the tires rebalanced after installing these ?

You shouldn't have to but when mine were replaced, I noticed a vibration. Brought them back in to have balanced. Only one wheel/tire needed re-balancing.

A good tire shop should be able to break the tire to rim seal at the air valve/TPMS location only.

Since the entire "backside" of the tire remains sealed to the wheel/rim and the TPMS sensors are usually similar in size and weight, your original balancing should remain intact with no need to re-balance the wheel/tire.

My post can be considered a review. I've had these for a few months now and maybe 10 track days and they work great.
