Secondary Cat Bypass

Secondary Cat Bypass
My local shop here said they could open up the secondary mufflers, remove the baffles, and install a straight pipe all the way through, close it up again.
I want a louder exhaust, and this would allow the car to look spec but with louder rumble. They said downside to this approach, they said, is that once the baffles are removed, they cant be fixed back to original specs again. Any views?

Why do you recommend not destroying the cats? I priced out bypass pipes and it's $800...are the cats necessary to pass emission tests, etc? Thank you.

I would not destroy them either, I would hang onto them. Just in case you ever need to sell the vehicle or just in case ever move somewhere that actually checks for that equipment. Probably some other reasons out there. Did you ask the muffler shop how much if they made the bypass pipes? What year/model is this for?

Recognizing that this sound isn't for everyone, I kept the original pipes in case I want to swap them back on if/when I sell my PiG. It's a relatively easy job, so if you end up not liking the sound or want to sell it with the stock set up, keeping the stock pipes gives you options down the road . FWIW, I think a set of these pipes were recently listed and sold on RL for $450, so it's worth watching the RL and other forum classifieds for a decent deal versus list ...

I'm with Snipe on this.... I installed the Fabspeed Seconday Cat Bypass pipes on my non-PSE '12 Cayenne S to get closer to the throatier growl that I've got on my 2010 911 4S Cab (with PSE and Fabspeed Sport Headers and 200-cel Cats). I wrote up a post on this with video clips for pre- and post-installation, and I love the new exhaust note at: https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...cayenne-s.html
