Default Did my 40k Service today on my 2013 Diesel

Well... since a fix is likely she's a keeper :-) I really like this car and would RATHER keep it.

Car hit 40k a few weeks ago so had the parts ready and brought it to my shop (BBI Autosport) to do the work. I like working on my sports cars... daily's not so much. Their pricing is fair (like maybe 1/2 the local dealer, maybe more??) and did the work while I waited. A few these weren't technically "due" but some of the parts are not expensive so... I supplied the parts for them:

Replace fuel filter and drain canister
Oil/Filter service
Replace cabin air filter
Replace air filter
Replace front and rear wipers
Brake fluid flush
Replace front brake pads, sensors, bolts (rotors are OK)
Rotate tires and check/balance them
Top up ad blu
Full inspection (under car and top side)
Read out computer codes
Reset indicators

All checked out good!

Did you need pads or just replace them proactively? I'm on original pads with 90k miles and thinking the fronts will go to 100k.

Fronts were thinner than the backing plates so some meat left, light not on. But, I tow my track cars with it so replaced. They were due. Rotors were fine so just pads.

100k on a set of brakes is insane.

90k on one set of pads?! Unless you never brake, that has to be impossible. These cars are heavy and the front pads wear out fast.

Why would I make that up?

I have done about 2500 miles of towing with the car (my trailer has brakes), but the majority of miles have been highway, mostly driven by my wife. Given my experience, it's why I asked the question of the OP. Having a lot of towing miles makes sense.

You are lucky to have a shop like BBI close by. They were cool with you supplying your own parts?

Yes, but I also buy a lot of parts through them for this and other cars.

I replaced all 4 wheels brake pads but at 35,000 miles. Fronts were getting thin but still very usable, but since I also tow a lot, wanted a full set. The rears had a lot left. If I wasn't towing I could see getting somewhere around 50,000 + out of the fronts and maybe 70,000 out of the rears. But the brake jobs on these vehicles is simple and I had the parts, so I just did all wheels. If someone is not hard on their brakes, I could see how you may be able to get a lot of miles between pad changes. BTW, the brake discs were all fine so I did not replace them.

I bought front discs and pads for all four corners. Ended up replacing pads only with new front discs sitting in my basement at 52K miles. Pads could have gone to 60-65K as light was not triggered.

I am the original owner of a 2010 Touareg TDI. I replaced the original pads and rotors at 100k miles. I don't ride the brakes. I use them when needed, then off. I also don't even touch the brakes in many situations that others do. I attribute this to my track experience.

@Spyerx - what did they charge you for labor?

Mine's due. The sales team told me, early on in the sales process, that they would do the 40k service before I took delivery. Considering they ALSO told me it had the tow package (it didn't, after I finally got the build sheet) I figure there is the very real possibility they didn't do the 40k either. I had them fix a few other things with the vehicle (some PDR work, fix some scratches in the front bumper, put tires on it, some other minor things) that I never followed up on the 40k service.

If it wasn't done, of course I'll push back - but I might not have much luck, and might wind up eating this one myself.

Honestly all of the stuff in the list, I can do myself... but I want that dealer stamp showing the major service was done. I'll likely cherry-pick the easy stuff (brakes, cabin filter) and already put wipers on it myself but otherwise let the dealer handle most of the rest.
