Default PCM options for 06 CTT.

Hi Guys,

Im looking at wanting to upgrade my PCM and wanted to know what the best options are.

Is there a great aftermarket unit or updated unit I can easily switch, or the OEM unit is the only option?

Thanks

'Easy' is a relative term. There is a wide range of skill and experience levels particularly on this board. If you are comfortable with buying a unit with poor service and support and some head scratchers due to complete lack of documentation then you might want to check out the thread on the Seicane unit a handful of us have installed. It definitely has some rough edges, but is a major leap forward into adding new tech into a Porsche.

Thanks. Can the PCM system from the 957 be put into the 955?

Providing both are Bose equipped cars and the 955 is a 2006 (or a 2007 in europe) and has all the required hardware for the installed modules then it will work with no problems. Prior to that I can't guarantee anything it gets a little messy as the 2005 and prior have a different Navigation system under the passenger seat.

One thing to consider is the longevity of the product.

I bought a Kenwood DDX814 for my GT3 about 8 or so years ago. It uses a Garmin GPS, but no one supports updated maps any more! This pisses me off to no end and it's a name brand.

I can't recommend what to buy, well, I wouldn't recommend Kenwood, but be wary of what you do buy. You need to consider long term or at least how long a product and its manufacture will be around.

Nothing sucks like being left in the cold with an unsupported product.

I have an alpine unit in my '06 CTT. Works better than the PCM in my 2015 Lexus and includes a backup camera, bluetooth, SatNav, etc. It was installed by a local shop here and cost around $2,800 back in 2013.

^^ Yup - it's seamless enough that nobody could tell that it's not OEM and as mentioned its WAY better than the PCM on my 2015 Lexus!

First; full disclosure: I'm a nurse, mom with NO prior knowledge of Porsche or audio systems sooo I researched it TO DEATH and hope my headaches can help someone else.

i have a 06 S, bose and MISSED my Bluetooth! I also didn't have thousands to spend on an audio system. I purchased the Kenwood 9903s. Why? I wanted a DVD/CD player with Apple CarPlay and Google CarPlay (may not be right word for google option) a MUST. I don't want navigation as I prefer google maps and other apps and HATE updating nav. To retain steering wheel controls and keep Bose, you have two options. alpine and kenwood. Since kenwood had the options I wanted, went with this model. Ordered from Crutchfield. Next, I called Loi at Eurospeed who did a harness that made it basically plug and play. Loi provides COMPLETE SERVICE! I did need help with the Bluetooth mic (my truck didn't have the pcm with phone option) but only had to pay $150 for power cords to be sent through glovebox and mic to headliner, rear camera etc. I have an amazing system for less then $1500. Hope that helps!

I also researched this to death last year then finally ripped everything out and started over. I am SO happy with the sound quality, Bluetooth phone/radar/nav integration of modern electronics that I don't miss the OEM look anymore. i am jealous! Your system is AMAZING! I didn't have the money to start anew, but can understand if I was traveling a lot how important that would be for you. Regardless, it looks so good and I am sure sounds even better. Congratulations! That's just plain NICE.
